My grandmother, Gurine Juliusdatter Saeterengen (Jennie Eng) (immi. 1909) and her brother Ole Severin Gustavsen Saeterengen (immi. 1916), both listed their destination in America as Wakonda, South Dakota, to an "Uncle" Julius Lokke. He was born in Norway in June 1864 and arrived in New York in 1886. I have not been able to find him on the censuses in Norway . . .

I would like to make the family connection, if any, of Julius Lokke to the Saeterengens.

Thank you in advance!

Their mother was Valborg Osdatter, b. 1853.

I'd like--with the board's help--to find Julius in the Norwegian census, and then I can go from there . . .

Blacksmith Julius A. Løkke (22) from Lillehammer emigrated from Oslo/Kristiania on 10-Jun-1886. Destination "Jankton DT"

The "A" in his middle name could be short for Antonsen, as the boy on the Østby farm in Eleverum for census-1865.

I guess I should give all that information instead of just the links? This was my first real time trying to help, instead of getting help all the time! I'm still trying to find the link between Gurine/Ole and Julius Lokke.

Thanks to all for your help!

I suspect that they might be related through marriage or maybe he was a close friend of the family . . .

Gurine (Jennie) and Ole had different fathers so I'll look for a connection through their mother. I just discovered that Ole's father, Gustav, was 12 years younger than his mother, Valborg! (Ha! Take that Demi Moore! )

When uncle way up there is written with quotation marks I am not sure whether this was an intention or not.

However, it is difficult to find that Gurine and Ole, having different fathers, are related to Julius. All I have found is
Gurine Juliusdatter Sæterengen, born May 29 1885, bap Aug 2 1885 daughter of “ugift” (unmarried) Valborg Olsdatter Sæterengen, (born Oct 14 1853, bap. April 17 1854) and “ugift dagarb” (unmarried day labourer) Julius Johannesen, Kværnbakken, born Febr. 28 1865, bap. April 30 1865. (Julius parents were Johannes Andersen and Oliana Halvorsdatter, Kværnbakken)

Ole Severin Gustavsen, born Nov 28 1893, bap March 11 1894 son of “pige” (unmarried) Valborg Olsdatter Sæterengen, and ”ungkar, skomager” (bachelor, shoemaker) Gustav Johansen Stensvehagen born April 2 1867, bap. July 21 1867. (Gustavs parents were Johan Gundersen and Eli Pedersdatter, Stensvehagen)

Valborgs parents were Ole Olsen, and Gurine Johnsdatter.
She had a brother Oluf, born July 2 1850

I think the quotations around Uncle, means that she wasnt sure if he was a blood uncle or if he was just a close family friend of theirs.

Yikes! No wonder Gurine (Jennie) went to America and changed her name! Honestly, my mother or her brothers knew nothing about their grandparents, but my uncle did say that his mother (Gurine/Jennie) visited the Lokke family often when he was a boy so it seems there was a close connection.

Again, thank you for your efforts.
