Hi
Is it possible to find my great grandfather Olaf Olsen Haugen, born in 1864 in Tune, Østfold, Norwa? He emigrated to Amerika around 1883-1890. We don't know where.
Is it a dream for all of us to find more about him. He never came back to Norway again, and my grandfather has never seen his father.

Well, this is a rather common name and he may have gone by Olsen instead of Haugen in the U.S.
More information would help. What was his month of birth?
Finding exactly when he emigrated would also help. For one thing, he usually stated the final destination. He should be in the "moving out" records, some of the parish records are on line on Digitarlarkivet:

He may have traveled with someone, etc. The passenger lists at that time would not have give much information as to final destination but every bit helps.
There is one possibility in Otter Tail County, MN, a Olaf O. Haugen, born Jan. 1861, immmigrated 1886, another census shows him immigrating in 1882. Knowing his exact date of emigration is important to know.

Here he is leaving from Kristiania on March 22, 1888, final destination is Muskegon, Michigan. Muskegon was a town on Lake Michigan across the lake from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and it was probably not where he settled. He appears to be traveling alone:

Yes,, it's him. Thank you. I have a problem to find him exatly in the church book on birh, so I don't know his birth. I didn't find him either when he was leaving from Norway. I wonder if they had to write themselves out of Norway the same year they leave?
is it possible to find him in Michigan....?? |

| Another possibility in the 1900 census was an Ole O Haugen b Aug 1864 in Norway living in Eau Claire, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The immigration fits with 1888. He is married to Anna b Aug 1856 also born in Norway and emigrated in 1893. Her possible last name is Branden as her brothers, Iver, Lewis and Olius are living with them. |

Thank, you Tami, it could be him since there was no Olaf Olsen Haugen with the birth 1864, which match 1888.
Can we see if they had any children?

| Well, I couldn't find anything in the 1910 or 1920 census, but I did find an Ole and Anne with the correct ages in Milltown, Skagit, Washington with a son Roy b abt 1901 in WI and daughter, Caroline b abt 1910 in Washington. I'll research further and see what I can find. |

So, no children, so sad...only my grandfather in Norway .
Thanks anyway if this is him.
But I will try to see if there was an another Olaf Olsen which emigrated in the same year to US from Christiania, born in 1864 from Tune. I saw there were 3-4 Olaf which were born in Tune in 1863...So maybe there is still a hope that it's not him.

| Ok, I found Ole O and Annie and Roy in 1910 with the correct ages in Conway, Skagit, Washington. In the census it almost looks like Olaf O...so these might be the correct people. I'm still trying to find them in the 1920 census. |

I found Ole O and Annie in the 1920 census living in Milltown, Skagit, Washington, with their daughter Lena (Caroline?) born about 1910....so, I'm thinking these are the right people. So, it looks like they may have had 2 children.
In the 1930 census, Roy Haugen was divorced but had a daughter Elaine b abt 1922 living with him, Ole and Annie along with the daughter Caroline. |

Oh, Tami...you are so smart. That was good news, and so exciting...
I could only find one Olaf Olsen from Tune in 1888, so I think it have to be him. Could you see some place that he was born in Tune, Norway in 1864?
I can't belive it - if it's him or them. My Great grandfather and his children .
Maybe some of his grandchildren Olaf live today? How great it would be...

| Sorry, Per....I couldn't find anything regarding Roy and his daughter, or his sister, Caroline after the 1930 census. There are a lot of Haugen/Hougen/Hagen's in Washington and in the US. |

Mybe I could advertise for descendants of Roy and Caroline Haugen on this sites. So I can clarify if it's the right Olaf (Ole).
I know there are many with this name...so this is not easy, but still hope.

| I am a descendant of this family. Ole's wife Anne was a half sister to my grandmother. She was part of the Brenden family who came to America in late 1800. Ole came to Eau Claire, WI and married Anne in 1897. They adopted Roy Melvin Haugen born in 1900 and shortly after that moved to the state of Washington. They also had a daughter Caroline, born in 1910. Roy married and had a daughter, Elaine born in 1922. They divorced and the 1930 census shows Elaine and Roy with his parents. Anne and Roy both died in 1933 and Ole died in 1936. They are all buried at the Scandinavian cemetery near Stanwood, WA. Caroline married but I can't find any additional information. Elaine was 11 when her father and grandmother died. The 1940 census has her living with a King family and appears to have had name changed to King. She then married Earl Fredrick Hamilton. They had a son, Earl Jr. Elaine died in 2002 in Bremerton, WA. Earl Jr. Died in 2009 in Laverne, CA. His wife, Zoe and family still live there |
