He emigrated to North Dakota in 1893. He married Marit Borgen, they lived on the Peterson Farm in Adler Township, Nelson County, North Dakota. They had three sons, Palmer, Oscar and Meldvin. Andrew Peterson (Andreas Pedersen) also had 4 brothers, who may havelived in the same region.

Sigvald Pedersen b.1868, emigrated 1890
Erik Pedersen b.1882, emigrated 1903
Olaus (Pedersen) 1889,emigrated1910
Tor (Pedersen) Haugen born 1891, emigrated 1913.

I hope anyone know anything about these men and their children. Their father was my grand grand grandfather..

There are a Pederson family living in the same postal area [58259] today, at anywho.com, Ken & Cleo Pederson, Michigan, ND.
Maybe give them a call or send a letter to check if they've known anybody by the name of Palmer, Oscar or Meldvin?

Jan Peter

Btw; Melvin, Oscar and Palmer have Social Security Numbers after one another, 501-38-4401, 501-38-4402 and 501-38-4403.
Did they apply on the same day?

Hi Here is the obiturary for Melvin. It appears he didn't marry but the reference to the 2 infants preceding him in death is confusing. Maybe he was married and divorced.

Deceased Name: MELVIN PEDERSON
Melvin Pederson, 85, Michigan, died Monday, April 3, 1995, in Aneta (N.D.) Healthcare Center.

Melvin Pederson was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Adler Township, Nelson County, N.D., the son of Andrew and Mary (Borgen) Pederson. He grew up in the area and attended rural schools. It probably means that two additional children were born to Andrew and Marit but they died as infants.
I have a family obituary from nearby that has very similar wording and that's what it meant.

Have you seen this, Haldis?
Full story

It's a history about the people from Lom (Medalen and Bøverdalen) , who created a new home-stead i North Dakota, including Adler Township in Nelson county.

On a US people search page, I found these people being related to Kenneth P Pederson (59) & Cleopatra Marie Pederson (58), found above:

Fern F Pederson (84)
Lavonneltkamaak E Pederson (71)
Oliver P Pederson (84)
Melvin Pederson (97)

The search page have not registered that Melvin died in 1995.
So Melvin looks to be related to these people. I would have given them a call tomorrow...

Hello Haldis,

Im not sure if this forum is still active. I am from adler township, nelson county, in north dakota. Melvin peterson would have been a cousin to my father. Our farm is 1/2 mile to the west from the Lom Church and school house pictured in that article posted by someone else. My family still lives on that farm. The Peterson farm would be about a mile and a half from ours. No one lives there any longer but the buildings are still standing. The Pederson brothers from what I can remember, never did marry, and had no children, they are all 3 buried in the Lom cemetary. Don't know if any of this helps you, since your origanal post is from 2007. Feel free to email me back!

Thanks
G. Borgen
