Hey Mike,
I fear that I have bad news. I would believe that Johann Diedrich Lampe was born sometime before 1801, somewhere in Bremen. However, since he was a merchant, he could have really been from anywhere. Nonetheless, there appear to be some records of a Johann Diedrich Lampe on Ancestry.com, which requires a membership, but currently, my World Explorer membership is expired. Next time that I activate it, I will take a look at those records
However, without any more details about Johann, it would be hard to confirm him. Therefore, I'd say any Diederich or Johan are out of the picture, but I still included what I found. The Ancestry records would be the most promising because at least in that case you have two first names, which makes it more likely to confirm.
I would like to give you some history. At the time Bremen, a free city since 1800, and the surrounding regions had undergone several wars and foreign occupations, from Sweden to Denmark to France. Around 1813, with the Battle of Leipzig when the French withdrew, Bremen became part of the German Confederation in 1815. Denmark didn't only lose Bremen to France as part of the Napoleonic Wars from 1803 to 1815, but Denmark also lost Norway in 1814. I would also assume that Johann Diedrich was a merchant that traveled from the Bremen harbor to the Trondheim harbor for trade. I would say the Napoleonic Wars probably also had something to do with his emigration from Germany.
A few Baptism Records between 1774 and 1803, that may be a match:
- Lampe, Diederich Kirchhuchting, Bremen, Germany in 1786 - Lampe, Diederich Kirchhuchting, Bremen, Germany in 1803 - Lampe, Johann Oberneuland, Bremen, Germany in 1788 - Lampe, Johann Oberneuland, Bremen, Germany in 1774 - Lampe, Johann Rablinghausen, Bremen, Germany in 1802
Ancestry.com
- Johann Diedrich Lampe in 1771 Bremen, Germany and Hannover, Prussia, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1574-1945, Birth, baptism & christening - Johann Diedrich Lampe in 1773 Bremen, Germany and Hannover, Prussia, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1574-1945, Birth, baptism & christening - Johann Diedrich Ebeling Lampe in 1778 Bremen, Germany and Hannover, Prussia, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1574-1945, Birth, baptism & christening - Johann Diedrich Lampe in 1778 Bremen, Germany and Hannover, Prussia, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1574-1945, Birth, baptism & christening
