With help from people on this forum I've been able to track Norwegian relatives in Minnesota and North Dakota, now I'm hoping to find some information about their ancestors in Norway. From online records Even and Ingor Evenson emigrated from Lunder parish in June of 1876 and met their son Halvor (Even) in Spring Grove, MN.
Specifically I would like to know any information about Lunder Parish and help with any further information about the Evenson's ancestry in Norway.
Thank you. |

They would probably be from Lunner in Oppland. You have birthdates or good estimates?
(I'm editing and correcting this 9 hours later than original posting. They were actually from Lunder in Norderhov as shown by Jan Peter below. Sorry for any confusion my quick guess may have caused.) |

Yes this is the same family as before but I had found some new information from an obituary. Ingor's obit. said she was from "Lundes, Rengerike, Norway" and I don't know enough about parishes in Norway to know the difference. Your links were very helpful, thank you. Do you know how far back the census data for their parish goes? |

Lunder parish records are available on LDS microfilm for the time period 1704-1921. Lunder used to be a parish in Norderhov clerical district, and the LDS Family History Center therefore has the parish records for Lunder filmed as part of the parish records for Norderhov clerical district.
Census records for Buskerud that are available online at the Digitalarkivet include: 1664-66 Census for Bragernæs deanery, 1801, 1865, and 1900.
Genealogy organizations: Ringerike - Drammen Districts Bygdelag. This bygdelag is an association of individuals whose ancestors came from eastern Buskerud including 1. Ringerike (Ådal, Hønefoss, Norderhov); 2. Hole; 3. Modum; 4. Øvre Eiker; 5. Nedre Eiker; 6. Drammen (Bragernes, Strømso, Skoger); 7. Lier; 8. Røyken; and 9. Hurum. http://www.fellesraad.com/ringerike-home.htm DIS-Buskerud is a local chapter of the Norwegian genealogy organization DIS-Norge (in Norwegian only). http://bu.disnorge.no/ Buskerud Slektshistorielag - the Buskerud Genealogical Society. no link available |

Incredible! Thank you so much... So Lunder and Norderhov are cities and Buskerud is a county, right? What is Ringerike?
Also I noticed on the census from 1865 that Jan Peter attached the word "Gard" and below that Braaten, is that the name of the farm? Braaten is the name the Evensen's changed to once they arrived in Spring Grove, MN. Thanks- Chris |

Run "Ringerike" through any good Internet search engine and you'll find links about it.
For example from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringerike http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norderhov
There are good lists of Norwegian words translated available under LINKS in the upper right of this page. Also notice the excellent study materials for "How-To". |

Hi, Buskerud is the county, and Ringerike is a municipality within the county.
Map of Norway:
Map of Buskerud:
Map of Ringerike:
Lunder church:
Norderhov church:
Lunder church is in Sokna, Norderhov church is halfway between Sokna and Hønefoss.
Norderhov is a parish within Ringerike municipality, and Lunner (modern spelling) is a local parish within Norderhov again.
Ringerike municipality was created January 1st 1964, when the municipalities Hole, Tyristrand, Hønefoss, Norderhov og Ådal, and a part of Flå was joined. Hole later became it's own municipality again in 1977.
Yes, Braaten is the farm they stayed at in 1865.

It was many people from that area that was settled down in Spring Grove in Minnesota.. A sister to my great grandfather Helga Gulbrandson left with her family and settled down there. They called them for Stromsodt. Later some of them left for North Dakota.
A man O.S. Johnsom . also from the same area has written 3 books about the people from Ringerike. I got them all , here in Drammen.
