fri fra sorgen - free (delivered) from sorrow
fri fra døden - free (delivered) from death
o vorail jeg oetc fro - ? ? I ? ?
i guds engler - in the Lords angels
somla ems ro - ? ? ?
belsignet doere - (velsignet være) - blessed be
eders minde - your/their memory
-a picture would be needed to get the right words where I have used ?

Thanks for the help. I could not find many of these words on the Norwegian dictionary link from Norway Heritage. I thought the words had something to do with his Norwegian home. We have found the Liekeren farm, about two miles north of Fagernes.

Eibache. I have a better picture of the words you could not translate. I believe they are as follows:

O vor vil jeg voere fro
Samkavems ro.

Hope this will give you correct letters for translation.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am afraid it did not help much - can you supply a picture of the tombstone?

The picture is the 35MM style, not digital. I will see if I can figure out how to transfer the picture and send it to you.

Thanks for your efforts,

Sid

A suggestion....

Fri fra sorgen, fri fra døden
O hvor vil jeg være fro
I guds englers samkvems ro
Velsignet være eders minde

Free from sorrow, free from death
Oh where I will be merrily
In contact with the tranquillity of the Lords angels
Blessed be your memory

Good proposal Jan Peter - Sid with a suitable scanner you can get the 35mm digitalized.
