Peder (born 1828) and his wife Lukris (born 1838) Kirkebø from Ladvik parish, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway emigrated from Bergen, on the 22th of may 1870. They travelled with the boat Galathea to Quebec, Canada and had their son Christian (born 1868) with them. They may have settled in South Dakota, US, but I am not sure, any information will be very helpful. |

Whew!! I think I finally found them!! In the 1920 Census, there is a Louisa Hanson age 81, and sons, Christ P Hanson age 51, Andrew Hanson age 40, and Hans P Hanson age 41...they were living in Alliance, Moody, South Dakota. The deaths would be: Peder Hanson 17 Apr 1911, Louisa Hanson 23 Jul 1923, Andrew Hanson 11 Mar 1939 and Christian P Hanson 29 Aug 1942 (all in Moody Co, South Dakota). Haven't found one yet for Hans.
I also finally found the 1910 census....Peter age 80, Louise age 71, Hans P age 32, Christ P age 42, and Andrew age 30. |

As of the 1930 census in Alliance, Moody, South Dakota, the brothers Andrew P, Christian P, and Hans P Hanson were all single living together. Andrew age 50, Christian age 61, and Hans age 52.
Andrew P Hanson was born 1 Jun 1879 in South Dakota. |

Thanks a lot for your answer, I am really amazed of what you have found. It is them because Peders name was actually Peder Hansson Kirkebø. Norwegian imigrants can really be hard to find since they often changed their norwegian names after they settled in the US, so Lukris became Louise, who could have guessed? Regarding the US 1930 Census, can it be wrong, it seems strange to me that the three brothers are living together at that age? |

No, I really don't think it's wrong. They obviously didn't want to get married and decided to stay together....Andrew (the youngest) was the head of the household. By the way, they're all farmers.
Yes, I looked in the Digitalarkivet and got the names and birthdates (except for Lucretia Arnesdtr, I couldn't find hers)...so I knew the names and got to try those. Kirkebø for them was not used at all. It was always Hanson. I could not find any of them in the 1900 census, however....I searched all the different names, but still could't find them. |

I saw this couple in the US-census from 1880, but there was two things there which made me think this was not the right people... Christian looks to be born in Indiana Iowa, not Norway... link And Lukris should have been 42 in this census.
What does the year of imigration say in the US-censuses? They should be found in Moody, (South) Dakota in 1900 also.

Yes, but in the later census with the same people, Christian was born in Norway....IA is Iowa, by the way! Like I've said before, the US census is definitely not always right! I've found some of my people being born in Sweden or US, when actually, they were born in Norway. For some reason, either the census takers didn't understand them, or just seemed to put whatever they wanted!!! Misprints happened all the time.
In the 1930 census, the year of immigration shows as 1870. In the 1920 census, it showed as 1810.....quite impossible, don't you think!? In the 1910 census they're listed with the last name of Hauson and Christ being born in South Dakota. |

Thank God misprints doesn't happen anymore! I believe it was eradicated in 1977...?
Or did I mix it up with smallpox?
