Does anyone know if SS Norge usually began its voyage in Copenhagen. I see on this page that in 1900 it was in Kristiania then Kristiansand and then New York. The reason why I am asking is that I am writing a biografphy on the Danish CEO of General Motors and he was on board the Norge in 1900. The danish imigration has a record of him listing a ticket 23/2 - but Norge leaves Kristiania on the 20/2 - so there is somethin rotten in the state of Denmark (or Norway) Could it be that Norge came to Copenhagen last? That would not be very logical from a geographical point of view... According to this site SS Norge arrives in New York on the 12/3. Isen't that a long time to spend on the sea?? Could it be that the Norge has left Copenhagen on the 25/2 arriving in Kristiania two days later on the 27th leaves Kristiansand on the 28th 0r 29th and still have plenty of time to reach New York?? Sincerely yours Martin Lund
Look at this site again, because I saw that in some instances, they left Kristania and then went to Copenhagen and on to New York. I'll take a closer look at the dates you supplied http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=norgl Wanda
According to Ancestry, the port of departure for the S/S Norge arriving in New York on 3/10/1900 (the arrival dates often vary by a day or two) is listed as being Copenhagen, on February 22nd. It also states that it left Christiansand on February 24, 1900. So it seems that yes, it started it's voyage in Copenhagen and then went to Christiansand. I don't see that they stopped in Kristania on Ancestry. That doesn't mean that they didn't, it's just not on the ships manifest that I saw.
