Gulleck Nyhus b 7 Sep 1833 died in Minnesota on 10 Oct 1894. Kjersti Kragstad b 22 Jun 1835 died in Minnesota on 11 Jan 1916. I believe they emigrated about 1872 with 2 children, Jens b abt 1871 and Guttorm b abt 1873.

I'd like to know where they were from. I've looked for both farms and found a lot. Please help me look!

Tami

These are the parents of an in-law, so I haven't ordered the death certificates. I was just hoping to fill in their birth places. I'll keep searching myself, of course.

Hi, worth a try.

There were Krakstad/Krogstad farms in following parish´s in 1865 according Prof. Ola Ryghh:
Norderhov in Buskerud county.
Østre Moland (todays Arendal) in Aust Agder
Skogn (todays Levanger) in Nord Trøndelag county

Perhaps a coincidence: Nyhuus was located to Norderhov in 1865

Based on the farmnames and the names of the family members, I have a strong feeling that these people are from Buskerud county, possibly Norderhov, Sigdal or Modum parish'es...?

Could not find them in the Emigrant databases from Oslo/Kristiania though..., maybe they emigrated from Drammen?
Looks like they emigrated ab. 1874.

Whoa, this surprises me! I've tried searches on this scant information over and over and just stumbled on something for you. Without patronymics I was ready to give up.
But look at these emigration records from Trondheim --

Kirsti Nyhus and children
Gulik Guttorms.

I'll chuckle for hours. I NEVER would have expected that spelling in the 1865 census, I don't know how Jan Peter managed to find it and I'm impressed.
Another spelling AND date challenged family! I'll bet they will be an interesting group to research. Good luck Tami.

Wow! I am amazed! I searched for a long time thru the emigration lists and the census. No wonder I couldn't find them. I thank everyone for all the help and I will enjoy looking for all relatives of this family! Thanks so much!!

Just amazing! All the different spellings...first and last names really make it difficult to find. Weird, too, I found a Christie Rollaughsdatter at one point, but really didn't think that was correct.

You guys are GOOD!!

Jan Peter, in the 1880 census link you put out, Ingeborg is the mother of the one that married into my family. Thanks!!

Tami

Nice!

That Ingeborg is born about 1875.

Census-1865 shows that Kirsti Rollogsdatter also had a girl named Ingeborg before she met Gaulik.

This Ingeborg is born ab. 1857-1862 (census-1865 says 1857, emigrationlist says 1862...)

Wonder what happened to her? Strange if they named a new girl Ingeborg if the first one was still alive...
