Hello, I recently was sent a picture of the ship that my ggrandfather's brother, Leganger Andreassen, was a crew member of. I have been trying to find out more information about this ship but I do not think that I am searching in the right places. The name of the ship is the S.S. Fjordheim. This is what it says on the photo: Posted on 15 September 1915
To Anton Andreassen
Buerstad
Nøtterø
pr. Tønsberg, Norway

"Kronstad 3/9 (1915)
Kjære foreldre jeg faar
sendt et kort af mannskabet
til dere saa faar dere se vordan
vi er men vi er ikke alle
sammen vi mankerer tre
stykker som ikke er med men
dere faar se vordan jeg er alligevel
jeg har ikke faat noget brev
fra dere men jeg har vel
et kort at vente
hils til alle kjente fra mig
Send mig brev
oftere og jevnere
Skriv snart. Alt vel.
Ærbødigst Leganger".

Is there anyway to find out about this ship and the crew. I am not even sure which one is Leganger as I do not have any pictures of him and I do not know what he looks like. Any help with this would be great. Thanks in advance, Tina

Have you tried doing a Google search? If you're not familiar, please search www.google.com

I found it listed in many articles. Including this info.

"1944 - U-482 sank SS Fjordheim"

Hi,
there looks to be (atleast) two D/S Fjordheim ships.

The one which was torpedoed by the german submarine U-482 on 3rd Sep 1944 was built in 1930, and belonged to the shipping company Nils Røgenæs Rederi in Haugesund, Rogaland.

I think the "D/S Fjordheim" you are looking for was built in 1904, and owned by ship owner & consul Botholf Stolt-Nielsen (1863 - 1936), also from Haugesund.

Try to post a new query here, a forum for the Norwegian Shipping History Society.

Thank you for the help in where to look for this information. I have googled the ship and came up with a lot of possibilities but could not find out anything relevant enough to say that was exactly what I was looking for. I am however going to post a query for the Norwegian Shipping History Society. Thank you Wanda and Jan for your help.

Hello timally,

Here I am once again, I did some quick reseach and
came with this conclusion.

SS Fjordheim (Tuesday - 13-09-1904) - (Ship ID 560221)
change name to
SS Dicto in (1915)

Dicto was sunk on Thursday 05th April, 1917 by
UB39 under the command of Kapt Walter Forstmann.

Please search the above and revert.

Best Regards,

Naxxar,
