Hans Kristian Hansen (Lukasstuen) Haraldsen, his wife Berit Robole, and two sons Nils, b. 1901 and Harold, b. 1903 arrived Aug 15, 1904 in New York on the S.S. ship CEDRIC along with Han's Brother Harald Hansen, b. 1887. destination Uncle Hans A. Pedersen, Box 221, Bode, Iowa.

I believe that Peder Hansen arrived on the ship MONTEBELLO in 1903, but unable to locate his actual immigration record with his wife Maria. ..his destination was probably Bode also as he is in the 1910 Bode census.

I have found Gunhild Marie Haraldsdatter marriage record to Hans Andreas Hansen in LDS records, married 30 Dec. 1867. His father was Hans Hansen, Gaarder, Nordre Land, Oppland.

The record of IMMIGRATION is the record of arrival at the end of the trip. A record of EMIGRATION is the record of departure at the beginning of the trip.

As the ship Montebello only took passengers as far as the port of Hull in England - don't expect to find an ARRIVAL record anywhere in the US or Canada under that ship's name. As is explained in many places on this website, those persons would have transferred to a trans-Atlantic ship for the remainder of the trip from England to America.

You believe that Peter H. Gaarder in the 1910 census for Delana/Delano township of Humboldt Co., Iowa (28 yrs old) is actually Peder Hansen.

Hans Andreas Hansen married to Gunnild Marie Haraldsdatter was born Oct 17 1840, he was an "uægte" child see #184
his parents were Hans Hansen and Marte Amundsdatter.
They obviously later married and in 1865 they are at Skrædderhougen, see here

Thank you for the info. clarifying the passage ships..departures and arrivals that makes searching a bit easier. As to Peter H. Gaarder in the 1910 Delano township of Humbolt County, IOWA perhaps I am wrong. I do have Peter H. Gaarder in the 1920, Deer Creek, Worth, IOWA with wife, Maria, and children Harold L. Gaarder. born 04 Jan 1907 in Delana, Humboldt, IOWA; Morris Gaarder, born 03 Mar 1909 in Northwood, Iowa, George E.Gaarder born, 11 Dec 1911 Northwood IOWA and Maynard H. Gaarder, born 1925 and died 07 Mar 1993.
Peter and wife Maria and two children are also in the 1930 census Northwood, IOWA with children George E. Gaarder 18 and Maynard H. Gaarder age 4.
George Iner Gaarder, has a son Bruce living in DesMoine IOWA and a daughter Jean Gaarder Price, another daughter Mary Gaarder Married to Ken Nielsen living in Georgia.
I have spoken with Bruce Gaarder several years ago and he was to inform me of more details but apparently he has become to busy and has moved several times in IOWA.
I would like more info. on Peter Gaarder's family as I know I have several relatives living in the US if only I could locate them.
My head is swimming with information that you folks have given me and I am most appreciative of all the assistance you have given me to date.
Ha en god dag.... that is the best I can do in Norwegian!!!!

The US census indexes show TWO Peter Gaarders in Iowa - at various points in time they each use the middle initial H.
The older one lists that he was born in Wis. and he lives in Worth Co. IA in at least 1900, 1910 and 1920.
The younger is the one in Humboldt Co. (near Bode) in 1910 and he lists birth in Norway and that he immigrated in 1903 -- this younger Peter and family are also in Worth Co. by the time of the 1920 census.

I was looking at Humboldt Co. only because you kept stressing the destination of Bode.

Hans Andreas Hansen married to Gunhild Marie Haraldsdatter, born 17 Oct 1840, you say he was an "uaegte" child. Does that mean he was born out of wedlock??
Hans Andreas Hansen's parents were Hans Hansen and Marte Amundsdatter.

In the 1865 Cenus for 0538 Land it shows the following:

Hans Hansen, son, age 26
Kristian M. Hansen, son, age 13
Lauritis Hansen, son, age 7
Martea Hansdatter, daughter, age 23
Helene Hansdatter, daughter, age 10

Where Martea Haraldsdatter and Helene Haraldsdatter born before Gunnild Marie Haraldsdatter married Hans Andreas Hansen and do you know the birth years of Hans Hansen and Marte Amundsatter and the children named above.

Another query if you don't mind:
Mads Svendsen, born 29 Mar 1823 married to Anne Marie Jorgensdatter, born 10 Aug 1817 azre the parents of Karen Mathea Madsdatter, born 28 Feb 1846.

In the 1865 census for 0536 Land it show that Mads Svendsen and Anne Jorgensdatter have two other children:

Ingeborg Madsdatter, age 13 and Beathe Madsdatter, age 7. Are these actually siblings of Karen Mathea Madsdatter?? Maybe they are half-sisters?? Possibly I am confused on this issue?? Marlene

Yes, "uægte" is born out of wedlock.
Kristian Martin was born Aug 4 1853, see #113
Helene Marie was born Nov 6 1856, see #165
Lauritz was born Sept 6 1859, see #180
Martea - Inger Marthea - was born June 13 1843 - her mother is recorded as Berthe Amundsdatter rather than Marte Amundsdatter, see #125
The Hans Hansen in 1865 is of course Hans Andreas.
Hans and Marte married Dec 27 1840, see #40
his father was Hans Torkildsen and her father was Amund Olsen.
Les has given the birth record for Gunnild Marie Haraldsdatter in an another string for you, she was born April 16 1843.

Jens Tolefsøn from Gielle was confirmed in 1780 and was then 16 years old, see here
His christening record from June 1 1764 has not been found yet, his parents were Tollef Knudsen and Berte Jensdatter. They are #491 and 492 in the 1801 census here
The 4th record from the top, left hand page here
shows that Jens comes from Gielde and Kari from Bøe, the best man Knut Tollefsen is Jens brother, you will also find him in the 1801 census.
The baptismal record for Kari Olsdatter is in the midle of right hand page
here
her father is Ole Bøe and the mother is Inger Eriksdatter.
Ole Olsen Søndrebøe and Inger Eriksdatter Hougsrud were engaged March 24 and married June 20 1768, see midle of right hand page here
Thats all for now.

The baptismal record for Jens is next to the last record on the left hand page here
the record was filed just prior to July 8 even though the christening was on June 1 1864. Parents being Tollef Knudsen Gielde and Berte Jensdatter.
Looking at the 1801 census you will find that Tollef and Berte had these children:
Knut (1860)
Tolle (1866)
Amund (1874)
Lars (1880)
To find when persons died from the scanned records is a question of spending time, read well and being creative.
The same is true for finding children although this could be a little easier.
If you look up the christening record for Mads you will find his father = Bertes husband = Svend Madsen!
See #49
