My ancestor Lars Ånonnsen Moi settled on a small plot of land called Støylsjordet part of the larger Høgeli farm near Åmli in Aust Agder fylke. His father is know to me as Ånon Larssen Onya. Birth date and place unkown. I would assume that Onya is the name of a farm, but I have been unable to find out if this is true or where this farm may be. The best quesses would be in either Vest Agder or Aust Agder. Any information on a farm name such a Onya would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a misspelling of Øyna? - Øyna ia a more common place name.

When was Lars Ånensen born?

The 1801 Norwegian census shows farms called Øyna in "Evie" (Evje), Aust-Agder; "Helleland", Rogaland; and Odda/Kinservik, Hordaland.

Since this is in Åmli, Aust-Agder, it's probably the Øyna farm under Hillestad you're talking about.

Since Lars Ånonsen settled on a plot of land in Åmli (Omlid, Aamli) Aust-Agder I think Øina med Larsnæs in Aamli (Øina with Lars Point) will be a good choice.

Just north of Lars Point, you have the Soil Island, with the Island Knot, the River town and the Mountain bay.

But what if he is from the Crow Point, just south of Lars Point? Or from the Waterfall Point in the Walking Valley?

I am certain that there are several posibilities, but because both the 1865 census and Rygh has Øina med Larsnæs and the fact that Lars is a name used in several (or at least 3 generations) I have the feeling this must be the place where Lars Aanonsen was living.
When he settled at Støylsjordet he obviously came from Moi, which probably is one of the farms in Bygland.
Only some dates will give possibilities for answers.

Moi, Høgeli and Stølen are farms in Evje and Hornnes, so the Øyna farm where Lars father was living could be the one in Evje. (I have not found the farm there though)

hasto, you are correct. I rechecked my data and believe that the correct spelling is Oyna and I suppose it could be Øyna in Norwegian. Best guess is that he was born in 1798 at Moi, Hornnes, Aust Agder. He died 22 July 1862 at Støysjordet, Åmli, Aust Agder. Hopkins, I will look at the 1801 census under Evje to see if I can find anything new. Jwiborg, does the red square on your map indicate the farm Øyna. If so you can see that it is not that far to to the Høgeli farm directly to the southwest.

I will now check a few things out and post again. Any other information will be greatly appreciated.

Hopkins, checked out the 1801 census and found the Øyna farm in E'vje. However no persons there resembling Lars Aanson Moi who would have been about 3 or his father Aanon Larssen Øyna. Will try some of the other suggestions.

Thank you eibache for the link to the death record for Lars Aanonsen, I will add that to my ancestry file. Now if I could find a birth record for him or a reference to him in the 1801 census perhaps I could find out more about his father and who his mother was. Thanks for all your help.
