3 brothers from Kjernsbaek, Skiptvet, Ostfold emigrated between 1900 and 1907. The eldest is easy to find because he skipped the farm's name. His brothers used Kjernsbaek according to Norwegian emigrant database.
ANTON Hansen b 1878 went by 'Montebello' from Kristiania July 13 1900 to Hull. Then from Glasgow with 'State of Nebraska' July 19, 1900 and arrived at Ellis Island August 2 1900. He was a skilled electrician. I know his descendants. Worked mainly in insurance in the USA and settled in Pennsylvania in 1906. He died 1952 in Harrisburg PA. No problems tracing him!
The second to leave Kristiania was JOHAN Arnt Hansen Kjernsbaek b 1886. He left with 'Montebello' from Kristiania on March 2, 1906. Agent Elster. Emigrant prot. Norway: Destination Pennsylvania.
The last of these brothers to leave was GUNNERIUS Hansen Kjernsbaek b 1882. He also went by 'Montebello' with agent Elster. Gunnerius left Kristiania April 20, 1907. Emigrant prot. Norway: Destination Pennsylvania.
Both Gunnerius and Johan Arnt left from Norway on 'Montebello' with agent Elster. I simlpy can not find them in the Ellis Island Records.
My questions are
1) what ship would they cross the Atlantic with?
2) which port did the ship arrive at in America?
I hope some of you can give me information. |

You should be looking for a White Star Line ship, as Elster was the general agent for that line in the years in question: Ferdinand J. Elster
In 1907 the Arabic (2) arrived Boston from Liverpool May 4th, it might be a list to check |

I could not find the year 1907 directly from your link, but when I search in ships and find her there, I see what you mean.
If she arrived in Boston does that explain why I don't find her passenger in the Ellis Island records? |

The reason why you do not find all the voyages of all the ships is that the information listed is not complete, as stated on the page. We are updating and adding new details as soon as we can get it done, but still it will probably take a lifetime. |

Borge, your advice about White Star, 'Arabic 2' and Boston turned out successfully! I have searched the Boston Passenger Lists:
'Arabic 2' sailed from Liverpool April 26th, arrived in Boston May 4th 1907 with GUNERIUS Hansen. 14 days from Kristiania.
'Cymric' sailed from Liverpool March 8th and arrived in Boston March 18th 1906 with JOHAN Arnt Hansen. Altogether 16 days from K.
Seems Elster had made a fine voyage for both of them! I am so grateful for your assistance. It's years since I started to trace these greatuncles. I was stuck by not finding them in Ellis Island Records. But you guided me to Boston. |
