Most likely Halifax or Quebec. Sometimes his planned destination will help you determine which to check first.

Jan Peter, May I ask where I can find this type of information. My gggrandfather & family left Kristiania on 10 Oct 1880 on the Angelo, arrived USA later via Quebec. I have all of the info except the name of the ship from Liverpool.

Thanks,

Sid Thompson

I've looked at the original manifests of arriving passengers in Quebec by ordering them on microfilm through my nearest LDS Family History Center. The original records do not contain an index such as Jan Peter seems to be using. They are arranged chronologically so I could study in the time period of the emigration/immigration just by rolling through and scanning through successive passenger lists until found (or search abandoned).

This is a repeat request from another forum. What is the procedure to find connecting ship to Quebec from Liverpool. In this case, leaving Kristiania on 10 Oct. 1880.

Thanks, Sid Thompson

You will have to get familiar with the details on how to search.

Study LDS microfilm reel of arrivals through port of Quebec, Canada in 1880. Should probably be film # 0889451 (double check yourself that is correct film number for 1880 Quebec ship lists by using their library catalog before ordering that film.) You know that you won't have to read through arrivals BEFORE 10 Oct 1800 - only those after (plus some estimated travel time).

Actually your Tosten Torgrimsen family left from Oslo/Kristiania on 10 September 1880. Torgrimsen family
(On European documents always expect European date format to be used.)

To use that online Canadian archive website you can search by a number of different options. Date of Departure, Date of Arrival, etc. Having accurate MONTH and YEAR for departure will be of tremendous importance. To see the images of actual pages of any particular manifest you must click on the link labelled View Image.
I suggest that you look through Quebec arrivals in the last week of SEPTEMBER 1880.
In another posting you stated you thought the Torgrimsen family arrived on the Sarmation (source not given) - but I think you will find that they actually arrived on the ship Sardinian.

You can browse through pages of such manifests either on LDS microfilm (as stated earlier) or by practice in the use of the Canadian website. I didn't find detailed HELP pages for how to use on the Canadian website. It appears to be a learning process by trial and error, but I may have just missed any such instructions that they have posted.
