The emigration record from Nes, Akershus shows several families leaving for New Zealand, 25 Nov. 1871. They are on the first page, 3rd from the bottom. Emigration
Chritstopher's birth date is 12 ??? 1843. Bertha's birth date is 20 Jan 1844. Daughter Dina ???? born 9 June 1871.
Which harbors are still open in Novermber?

Here is the list of emigrants leaving from Kristiania on 30 Nov 1871, using the Winge & Co. Line, S/S Oder. going to Wellington, New Zealand. But, Christopher, Bertha, and Dina are not listed. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=43&filnamn=emikra1&medbilete=&sokpostnr=21#a0 Two of the other emigrants from Nes are listed. #782 Mina Bergersd and #785 Julie Nielsd Ruud.
It could be possible they went to Kristiansand.
The S/S Oder left Kristiansand 30 Nov 1871, for London. Unfortunately there are no "on-line" emigration records for this year. Ref

Christopher Eriksen was born Febr. 12 1843 and baptized March 5, see the third from the top on right hand page, here his parents were Erik Olsen and Dorthe Mattisdatter at Gjerøienmyr. Berthe Marie #19 baptized March 24 her parents were Ole Olsen and Inge Hansdatter Folvel eie. The daughter was Dina Indiana - no baptismal record has been found. Erik Olsen 28 years old Aagaaserud and Dorthe Mattisdatter 20 years old Mangnæs married Dec 25 1830, see here

Good morning
I have a list of passenger names that were on the ship England from Gravesend London on Dec 8 1871 This list do not mention Dina Indiana born 9 June 1871 - but Jane Eriksen - 6 months old - who died on board the England 13/01/1872. Can it be possible that Dina was a sister of Christoper Eriksen and is it possible to find out if the rest of the family ( brothers and sisters) immigrated with him or not. He had a sister named Dina in New Zealand and she died 5 days before turning 100 years old and i suspect it to be in the 1970's. Bertha Maria also died at sea 2/01/1872 and Christopher remarried (12 Feb. 1875) in New Zealand to a Elise Maria Kristine Andersen (24) from Denmark. I have no knowledge from where she is and with what ship she came to New Zealand
Thanks Christa |

You saw the "Udflytte" record from Nes, Akershus above which mentions Dina Indiana - NO she's not Christopher Eriksen's sister -- clearly listed as the daughter of Christopher and Berthe Marie. It is a church record of their leaving the parish and stating where they intend to go, not actually an emigration record. Udflytte 1871
Christopher Eriksen would be about 22 years old at the time of the 1865 Norwegian census -- he no longer is living on his parents farm. Therefore not mentioned on the listing of residents of the Gjerøienmyr farm in Sør-Odal, Hedmark. You know that in 1871 he was in Nes, Akershus by 5 May 1871 because that is when and where he married Berthe Marie.
Therefore searching the 1865 census listings for both Sør-Odal, Hedmark AND Nes, Akershus is absolutely necessary to hope to find where he was in 1865.
Christopher is probably residing and working HERE for the 1865 Norwegian census. Still in Sør-Odal, Hedmark. 1865 Sæter-England farm

Hi Christa I also have a website that I stumbled across that says the Oder left Christianaia on 30 Nov 1871 arr Gravesend 4 Dec 1871 then England departed for Wellington on Dec 8 1871 arr 9 Mar 1871. These passengers, bound for the Wairarapa, then went into quarantine on Somes Island upon their arrival in Wellington, on Apr 1 1872, a year later, most immigrants were transferred into barracks at Mt Cook, Wellington. 8 April 1872 men left Wellington on foot arr 10 April 1872 at site of Scandinavian Camp. 23 April 1872 women and children left Wellington by wagons. The website is http://archiver rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/NORWAY/2001-020982443932 it is a Scandi article timeline by Anne Lemon from Feb2001.Did you knowabt Somes Island? May be interesting info for u at this end at archives re Somes Island. Sheena. |
