I am looking for Karen Andersen born 30. june 1850 in Gran. She left for America sometime after 16. april 1870. On the bark Colonist leaving from Drammen 10. may 1870 there is a passenger nr 137 named Karen A. Could that be her? Anyone who knows? |

Hi Vivi, Do you know anything else at all about her? Parents name? Siblings names? There are 4 possibilites in Gran in 1865 Census, and with just a bit more information we could narrow it down perhaps, which might provide more detail to find her in the emigration lists.

Thank you, Carra.
I know her norwegian background, but nothing from America.
She was born 30. june 1850, baptised 7. july and her parents were:
Anders Christensen and Ingeborg Joensdatter.
She left her home in Gran 16.april 1870. I am pretty sure she was a passenger on the bark Colonist leaving Drammen 10. may 1870 and arriving in Quebeck 20. june 1870. The passengers name is simply: Karen A: 20 (years old) but many others who left Gran the same day as her are passengers on that ship. She had several siblings. Two of them also emigrated to America: Her brother Christen Andersen born 2. nov 1832 (Anderson in America) settled down in Fillmore county, MN. Her sister Ingeborg Andersen (sometimes Andersdatter) born 14. june 1841 married Lars Larsen Egge (born 23. july 1832) in Norway and left with him and her daughter Rilda (born 15. mars 1868) 5. may 1870. They also settled down in Fillmore.
Any information about their life in America is welcomed too.

Wow,
thank you, Diane!
I have tried to find them in the 1880 census with no luck, even though I knew Ingeborg settled in Fillmore. Wonderful to have it "in writing".
Did you find the original document? And if so: could the son's name be Lauritz or Laurits?
Do you know of any marriage index from this period?
By the way, I have a topic going about her two emigrated siblings. I started one for Karen alone because I knew nothing about her after she left her home in Gran.
