Now I am confused about where my father was born. His US marriage and SS records simply have Norway on them as place of birth. He told us he came here from Lofoten Island when he was 4 years old. He talked about growing up on a farm in the Jamestown, NY area. He said his first name was Konrad but he did not like the name. All of the US documents have Meier Hanson.

Hi,
it looks like Konrad changed first name in Norway, he emigrated as Meyer Hanson with his mother Mai 5. 1920, dep. port. Trondheim, ship Bergensfjord, she was "g" married as Ingrid Hanson, US citizen, she came back for Konrad Nov. 21. 1919 see # 171813 & 171814

Hello,
Thank you so very much. This is a very good lead. Now I will cross reference her US passport number to be sure I have the right persons. I am still curious about were my dad was born. My sister says that she recalls something about Bergen but she can't remember what. I know it is a lengthy process but I have started going through all of the birth and baptismal records from 1914-1916.

Maybe there would be some help from Vågan Historielag, see Front page
- old photos may also be of interest.

Hi,
her U.S Passport no. is 127193, issued by Dept. of State, Wash. D.C., on Oct. 11th, 1919.

Destination reads Erie Col.

Did they live in Erie Colorado? Should be in Weld (or possibly Boulder) county.

Have you located them in any US census?

I have been slowly working my way through the 1930 US census records. The only location they lived in that I can be certain of is the Jamestown NY area. As an adult my father settled in Newark, NJ. I think somewhere around 1940 since my older sister Judith was born there in 1942. After she retired my grandmother lived in Greenwich, Ct until her death in 1984. She was cremated and her ashes returned to Norway to be buried with her parents.
Judith took all of the old family photo's and records. She would not give any copies to my younger sister and I. She passed away in 2002 and her husband says he doesn't know what she did with them.

Thank you for the help. i have been going through the church records and have found information on some other relatives but I still have not found anything regarding Konrad.
I did notice that Kabelvaag is noted on the confirmation record and on the 1920 passenger log. Is this also in Vagan parish?

No, I think she's referring to his mother Ingrid's confirmation record that Kåre listed above. That lists Kabelvaag.

Yes it was on Ingrid's confirmation record but Kabelvag also appears as the point of origin on the emigration record. As of now I have found that Ingrid came to the US in 1916. She married here and returned for Konrad in 1919. They both returned to the US in May 1920. His name on the emigration record is Meyer Hanson. The name change makes me think that he may have been christened somewhere between November 1919 and May 1920 as Meyer Hanson.

Ingrid,
Smedviken where Ingrid Kristiansen lived in 1900 is the inner bay in Kabelvåg.

Hello Ingrid. I`m in relationship with you. My great-grandmother Alfhild was sister of Ingrid Kristiansen. Now I`m searching for Alfhilds father, John Severin Kristiansen. I can not find his grave in Norway, but his wife, Nilsine is burial in Oslo in 1940. I can not find Alfhilds housebond Oluf after he emigrated to Amerika in 1929, but he married again in 1932 with Anna Rohde. Do you know something about this persons? I look forward to hear from you. Please e-mail me on stensko@online.no. As you know I`m living in Norway.
