I've been sorting through many many records, and thanks to people at this site and others in North Dakota and Minnesota, have found this for my great grandmother:

She was born on 29 Jul 1858, in Verdal, Nord-Trĝndelag. She was known as Kjersten Pedersdatter (age 8) on the 1865 census. She left Inderoy, Nord-Trĝndelag, from Trondheim harbor on 20 April 1881. (She is named "Kjersten Hellem" here). Her destination was Windom, Minnesota. She married Olaus Austad on 4 April 1882 in Des Moines Twp., Minnesota (on this record, she is named "Kjersti Peterson"), and they shortly after went to Enderlin, North Dakota. I also don't know if Olaus accompanied her - there is someone mentioned as "Olaus Ol "Aarstad" on the same page of the Digitalarkivet.

My problem: I cannot find her actual arrival in the US - I've tried New York and Canadian entries, to no avail. However, I could have missed something. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you!
Lucia

OK... perhaps I'm just short of the "grey matter", however, when I "click" on the "Tasso", I see that connections are only from Liverpool or Glasgow. Does this mean that she traveled from Hull to another port? Thank you!

since pronunciation of "Aarstad" and "Austad" in english would be close he could be the one Kjersten married. Here is Olaus in 1865
his baptismal record is #54
he was born Aug 10 1859.
You probably know that Kjersten Martha and her parents and siblings were on Haldum, Inderĝy in 1875

The articles on this website which go into a great deal of detail explain that, perhaps you missed them.

Thank you all for the above information. So far, I've relied upon "ancentry.com" for much of my information, as well as using "google" for searches. For information in Northa Dakota and Minnesota which is not yet available online, I've enlisted the help of historical societies and a professional genealogist. I have not thoroughly read the articles suggested, and now will do so.
