Sverri Gudmund Samuelsen was born 1885 in Oslo Norway. He had six brothers and one sister. (Names not in order) Samuel b.1880, Alfred, Joseph, Anna, and two unknown males. Father was a Photographer, Karl Anton Samuelsen. Mother was an Opera singer, Marie (Unknown maiden Name). I am interested in any info I can get on this family and any Ancesters.
This is the beginning of my search and I am new at this. So I will be happy with any help. Thank You.
Debi

There is no sign of these people in the 1900 cencus. Neither in Oslo nor in the rest of Norway. So I assume they emmigrated before that?

Hi Debi On the LDS Family Search site http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
there is a Karl Anton Samuelson married to Karen Marie Olsen 8 Aug 1880 Paulos Menighet, Oslo, Akershus, Norway which could be yours

There is a Sverre Samuelsen in the 1900 census Birth year listed as 1884 along with a Harald Samuelsen birth year 1881 at the Digitalarkivet site (Hei Askeroi I think you missed this one ) The occupation for Sverre was Stud. art, ubesvaret, Art student?? which might fit with his fathers occupation

Hey, Girls

No - I didn't miss THAT Sverre Samuelsen. I just didn't think it was the right man. The name is incomplete, the birth year is not accurate, and his parents are nowhere to be found.

Of course they could be missing (the cencus isn't that perfect), or they could have emmigrated seperately from their son. But I didn't find it THAT likely - after all he was only only 15.

I don't know what "stud. art" means, but can it be "translated" directly to english? Art is "kunst" in norwegian. The original cencus list could have said "ark." (short for "architect") for instant?

I really don't know - but I have doubts that this is the right "Sverri".

Sorry...

I think this must be our man departing from Kristiania in 1903:

139974 Oslo 01711 1903 Mars 13 Sverre Godmand Samuelsen m u Sjømand 18 Kristiania Philadelphia 316 Norge 108,- Angelo

It is from the Digitalarkivet:
