Can someone help me find out more about my granfathers two brothers? Samuel was born 16. nov 1886 and died 1967 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York. He went to USA in 1906.
David was born 2. feb 1892 and died 1983 in North Carolina. He emigrated to USA in 1909.
We think that one of them had a son called Palmer Ekeland.
Their sister, Josefine, also went to USA. She was born 17 jul 1879. We think that she had a daugther called Jenny or Jennie.
Grateful for all information!

OK, so they came from Vanse Parish and were both seamen, David Kristian
and Samuel P
In the 1900 census they are all on Aamdal
- including Jenny and siblings.
Their parents were Peder Andreas Jĝrgensen and Ingeri Olsdatter.

Correct. David arrives in US on 25. feb 1909 with Oscar II. He travels on the same ship as his older brother Jĝrgen, who later returns to Norway. On the same ship I find a Josefine Lambert, who can be their sister.

Hei Yvonne.
Did Samuel Ekeland married Thora Olsen?
They had a son Palmer, he died 2001 in Fergus Falls.

Information is coming from here about 4 centimetre down.

Are you interested in their lives in the US or in Norway. If in the US what were the last names they were known by in America. It is not clear from the above posts what they were called.

There is a Palmer Andreas Ekeland born 7 Jun 1913 in Norway mothers maiden name Olson. He is listed in the Minnesota Death Index.

Minnesota Death Index

More would need to be known about the family before we could connect the two.

Can you tell us more about the borthers and especially their last names used in the USA

Hello Kċarto. I think this could be the Palmer Ekeland I am looking for. We have a photo from about 1930. My father has written that it's a photo of his cousin Palmer Ekeland from New York. He was a gymnast and a good swimmer. That is all the information I have on Palmer. Is there anyway I can get in touch with his children or grandchildren?

Hello Lyndal40. I know that both David and Samuel used Ekeland as their last name in the US. They are both listed at US Social Security Death Index. It is their lives in US I like information about. I hope to get in contact with their descendants.

Thanks for your help so far.

Hi,

If you click on the word here in Kaarto's previous you can look at Palmer's obituary found in the Fergus Falls, Minnesota paper. His children are named in the obit and then you can look up their phone numbers and addresses in one of the online directories. Good Luck.

Using one of the phone services and searching for Jan Kilde, Fergus Falls, MN will probably find one of the children.

While a subscription service Ancestry.com does allow sharing of images. If either of these or other historical records interests you let me know and I will arrange to share the images with you.

Hello Lyndal40
I'm interested in all historical records regarding my family.

Hei Kċre!
I got lucky on facebook and found one of the grandchildren listed in the obituary there. I hope I will get an answer from her.

Click on lyndal40 and click on send an e-mail. Send me an e-mail, I will use your e-mail address to send you a share image from ancestry.com. You will be able to view the image and print out the image. You probably will have to down load the ancestry.com image viewer to view the images. It is a little bit of work to get it all done but I have used it before on this site to send people images and they were able to view the historical documents and print them out.

I think you will find documents like the Draft Registration Forms interesting since they describe the person as to weight, height eye color etc. and usually are signed by the person, making them quite a nice historical document.

Interesting one of the records I found was a . for Samuel Pedeison Ekeland from 19 apr 1921, the reason for the passport is to visit his parents. And an application for Tara Ekeland whose spouse is listed as Samuel Ekeland from 28 apr 1922. She is listed as having been born in Norway in 8 Mar 1880.

There is also a Samuel P Ekeland listed as a passenger on the Stavangerfjord which left from Kristania and arrrived in New York on 9 aug 1921. But according to the manifest he is traveling alone.
