I am searching for the ship and passenger list for Peder, Sonova and Christopher Haagenson who left Kvam 15 Apr 1854 for North America. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have searched the database but haven't had success. Thanks. Kathy |

There are about five Peder Haagensons arriving at various times into the US. Can you tell us what year Peder or Sonova or Christopher were born. |

Peder Haagenson was born 1834 in Kvam, Synneva Bringelsdr was born 1830, Christopher was their child born 19 June 1853 ØYstese in Kvam, Hordaland. Peder's last name is also given Lilleaas (farm name). They left Kvam 15 Apr 1854. They probably went to Quebec?
Thanks. Kathy

In 1854, the great majority of Norwegians traveled to Canada first and then made their way to their final destination, please note below there is only one recorded New York trip in 1854:
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_year.asp?ye=1854
The three Quebec lists shown are from Norwegian newspapers. There was no passenger list requirements for Canada until 1865 and the records start at that time.

Some of us with ancestors who left early from Bergen and probably landed in Quebec will NEVER find a passenger list because they no longer exist. You might be joining that club. |

With the information you provided, Peder or Peter Hognenson can be found along with his wife Synneva or Synova in the Census data for the Minnesota State and Territorial Census for 1895 and the US Census for 1900 along with other information such as Cemetary Inscription. However, using ancestry.com no information was found on immigration that fits either of these two people.None of the Peder Haagensons found in ancestry.com Immigration data file was born as early as 1830. I assume youi have seen the census data and are only interested in the journey from Norway to America. If you are interested in other information let me know and I will post that information. |

By the 1870 census, the family seemed to be in Rock Dell, Olmsted, MN
There is an Index entry for of a Peder Haagensen filing Declaration of Intention. It's in Douglas county so likely not your guy, but maybe Olmsted county might have the record for yours. Between the Declaration of Intention and the final papers, you might find some answers. |

Hi, the passenger list isn´t available. They likely left from Bergen on either Condor or Harald Haarfagre
They were recorded April 15, likley left later same month. Kvam is not fare from Bergen, two days trip, they could have reached Ship Ocean or Saga, both ships leaving Bergen for Quebec April 28.
Is any passenger list for these ships recorded in Quebec?

There are lists for both of these ships on ancestry.com for arrival into Quebec, but they both begin in 1865. |

I just made a check, and for your information Christopher was born April 20, June 19 was his baptismal date. Christophers parents were not married at the time he was born, he was therefore an "uægte" child. See #24 The parents actually got married before the baptism, see #13 Peder Haagensen was then 19 1/2 years old and Synneva Bringelsdatter was 22 1/3 years old.

Peder was born Sept 21 1834, see #58Ø his parents were Haagen Torbjørnsen Lille Aas and Sognie Christophersdatter. Synneva is most likely the one born in Ulvik Aug 19 1830, see #52 her parents were Bryneld Johnsen and Synneva Bjørnersdatter.

Thank you for all the information. Yes, I have found records in Minnesota censuses and naturalization. I guess that the passenger lists or emigration records are not available for 1854. Peder's brothers Lars and Torstein immigrated in 1873. I have also searched for their emigration records or passenger lists with no luck? Torstein immigrated with sons Hakon B and Hans T.
