| Gunder and the other had drafted the military and left Vinger to enroll in Fredrikstad. Other men by the age of 18 - 22 in Vinger did the same, before and after Gunder. All of them left to either to Fredrikstad or Fredrikshald (Neighboring Fort). |

| Wow and thank you for all the responses and ideas. Yes, I see now that the Oedgaarden (Gunder) would not be the same as my Gunder. I did not know about the middle name being the father's name.... I understood how Haagensen was Haagen's son but did not know what order the names appeared in. So I think you all might be on the right track with the other Gunder Haagensen Udgarden. His Hudson Bay records say that he began in 1858 in Moose Factory, Canada and retired in 1902. Yes, this is my family in the 1881 Canada Census with the daughter, Mary, being my grandmother. I will look at the links you have suggested and will continue to appreciate any other info you might come upon. |

| my great-great grandfathers name was gustave udgarden..he had a brother by the name of harold..i live in moose factory ont. canada..i dont realy have that much information as do where they came from...the name udgarden was changed to gunner when one of gustave sons signed up for world war 1..they officail told him that his name was not adgarden anymore and they gave him the name gunner... |

Married Emily Moore b. ca. 1870 in Quebec.
Children used Gunner as lastname ?

| this is the same gustave udgarden as my great-great grandfather..he did marry a woman by that name...she was from a place called ruperts house..the name of was changed to waskaganish and it is located along the east coast of james bay..i gave u the wrong info about why udgaarden was changed to gunner..i guess the people here long ago didnt realy talk english and they had a hard time saying udgaarden so they just said gunner..i guess thats how they pronouced it when they tried to say it in englsh..harold gunner moved to great whale river and he lived with a inuit woman..i dont know if they were married..but they did look after a boy..i dont know what the boys name was as i'm still working on that |

| my late father was the one who told me about old harold udgaarden..the reason we called him old harold udgaarden was beacuse my father had a son and named him harold also...he also told me that gustave daughters moved to soo sault marie ont....a few years ago a guy by the name of james udgaarden came to moose father looking for relatives or information of the udgaarden family..we didnt know he was here until after he was gone..i guess james didnt know that name was changed to gunner...i'll wait for ur reply and see if were family... |

| I am the grandaughter of Mary Udgarden (who used Gardiner as a last name) who married Peter Closs. She is one of the sisters that came to the Soo - as did Sarah & Jane. The man you may have met back in the early 90's was James Huckson - grandson of Sarah. Sarah married a William Shaw & to my knowledge, Jane never married. Jimmy Huckson brought back stories of his trip there and meeting some of the Gunner family. I recall some reference to "Old Uncle Harold" who actually left a bit of money to his relatives some years ago. The youngest sister, Emma, married a Fisher and lived out her life in Michigan. |

| nice...why the name change to gardner..i guess it might be the same reason ours was changed to gunner...i heard there might be another family member that moved to the hearst area....well you do have lots of family here in moose factory...there is the iseroff family..moore family..glenesk family..hunter family...and whole lot of others..the older family members here are now all gone..the last old person passed away 2 yrs ago and he was 91..he grew up living with gustave and he said his grandfather never realy talked about where he came from and other family that he left when he came here...gustave wifes last name was spelled different..the spelling of her last name was moar..not moore..well i hope this helps a little..like i said earlier the old people didnt realy know to much about their famiy history..and its nice to find other family members and know little more...james udgaarden was the one who moved to hearst..but was never heard from again..at least from our end..well i hope to hear from you again |

| we did hear the old harol;d had lots of money..but we also heard that the hudson bay company had it and we dont know what happened to it..i heard the older people talking about it and never heard anything else...i know he lived with a inuit lady and they looked after a boy..buts thats i know about harold |
