Over 23 years ago my husband bought a complete set of dishes at an estate auction of the Beaver family in Pennsylvania. They have the trade mark stamp as Teutonic

on the back of the dishes. But we can not find that type of trademark on any other Mellor Taylor & Co. The dishes are over 100 years old but in good condition. We were wondering if anybody knows anything about this trademark or dishes. We they a special order for someone associated with the Teutonic or were they just everyday dishes.

The White Star line used various china on its luxury liners and sometimes the patterns were specialized to the ship they were created for. They also used china patterns that did not specify the ship in the design and could therefore be used on other ships of the company. Examples of the some china patterns known to be used for the various classes of passengers on many of their ships are pictured on the Internet.

A club of collectors of china/transferware might be able to give you more specific information. One website mentioned "White Star china historian Russ Upholster" -- so there are people who specialize in this type of information.

Google search for "White Star china" gave some interesting websites you could start your research with, including:

I have a single place setting of china dishes that were used on the Graf Zeppelin and/or available as a souvenir to passengers. It was a time of luxury travel for the upper-class passenger!
