In the 1910 US federal census he is listed as Johannes Martinson, 36 yrs old, b. Norway, immigrated 1896, and has started the process of naturalization but not completed it yet.

Search out the various US naturalization papers -- after 1906 those were full of very detailed information about the alien applying.

Valdres is a region in Oppland, Norway which included Vestre Slidre, Østre Slidre, Vang, Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal and Etnedal.

Johannes Mortinsen/Martinsen, Sæteren moved out from Ulnes in Nord-Aurdal March 28 1896, see #2
He was born Nov 18 1873, see #33 his parents are listed as Morthin Johannesen (1840) and Berit Andersdatter (1843), Nordsven who were married 1873.
The marriage record is #1 and the date is Dec 28 1873. Morthin Jonsen is here said to come from Hadeland and was born in 1856. Beret Andersdatter was on Sæteren and was born 1848.

Great information. Thank you both very much for looking. Can you explain this part to me: "Morthin Jonsen is here said to come from Hadeland and was born in 1856. Beret Andersdatter was on Sæteren and was born 1848." Are these different people than Morthin Johannesen (1840) and Berit Andersdatter (1843), Nordsven who were married 1873?

They are most likely the same persons even though the names are written differently.
The baptismal record for Berit Andersdatter is #17 she was born March 9 1843, parents Andersen Halvorsen and Marit Toresdatter at Rognaas.
