My grandfather, Paul K Strand came to the US in 1907. He was 18 years old. We are looking for any information regarding the ship on which he traveled and where he entered the US. He might haveebtered with the surname of Udset (h) or Utset(h). He alsomight be listed as Paul Peterson (pederson). He would have traveled from the island of Hitra near Trondheim. |

If you search Ancetry.com using only the first name Paul and birth 1889 +/- 2 years and immigratin only 1907 you turn up two candidates out of 25 names. The first is
Name: Paul Pedersen Arrival Date: 12 Sep 1907 Age: 17 Years Estimated birth year: abt 1890 Gender: Male Ethnic Background: Scandinavian Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Ship Name: Ivernia Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts Friend's Name: Julius Pedersen Last Residence: Norway Birthplace: Bo, Norway
The orginal manifest lists his father as Pede Robertsen and home as Stranisjo (sp?) Norway. Destination Two Harbors, Minn. |

The second is a bit more of a stretch but the original manifest spelling could be read as Utseta. He is travelling with a brother named Kreslain and going to an uncle named N or H Raudvig of Red Field, South Dakota.
Name: Paul S Utecta Arrival Date: 24 May 1907 Age: 17 Birth Date: abt 1890 Birth Country: Norway Gender: Male Race/Nationality: Scandinavian Ship Name: Empress of Britain Port of Arrival: Quebec, Canada Port of Departure: Liverpool, England

The orginal refers to Paul Udseth naturalized citizen of US, naturalized in District Court of Lincon County , Minnestoa. He appears to be traveling with a friend Nikolai Ronning (sp?). There is a reference to home city and it appears to be Hendirks, Minnesota although very hard to read.
from Ancestry.com
Name: Paul Udseth Arrival Date: 31 May 1907 Age: 50 Birth Date: abt 1857 Gender: Male Ship Name: Virginian Port of Arrival: Quebec, Canada Port of Departure: Liverpool, England

It is quite possible that he did not go through Ellis Island. The two candidates that are posted above did not. One went throiugh Quebec and the other through Boston. Do either of those two candidtates seem likely.
Based on the next post, I would say no, that the next personis the best candidate. |

Here is the Ancestry.com listing on Paul Kristiansen. The original manifest lists his last permanent address as Ulvaag, Norway, and his mother as Eilen Kristensen, Tronfan (only a guess very difficult to read). His friend Kud Ulvaag has his father listed as Gabriel Ulvaag of Ulvaag, Norway and his last residence also as Ulvaag, Norway.
Name: Paul Kristiansen Arrival Date: 12 Oct 1907 Estimated birth year: abt 1888 Age: 19 Gender: Male Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Scandinavian Ship Name: Lusitania Search Ship Database: View the Lusitania in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: New York, New York NATIVITY: Nrw Line: 3 Microfilm Serial: T715 Microfilm Roll: T715_1013 Birth Location: Nrw Birth Location Other: uloaag
Both have final destinations as Elk Point, South Dakota.
