I am looking for info on Martin Pederson born 1883 in Hen Buskerud, Norway and Charlotte Otilla Pederson born June 16, 1882 in Fredrikstad, Norway. They came to America sometime between 1883 and 1912 when Joseph Pederson was born July 29, 1912 in Makoti, N. Dakota, U.S.A. They lived in Rural Makoti, N. Dakota. Any information I can get will be appreciated. I know nothing about the parents of Martin or Charlotte but I do know they had the same last name before they were married.

The first place to start is always in US records. To gather more information we have to find out where in North Dakota 'Makoti' is located. I looked it up - it's in Ward County.
US census indexes for Ward Co. ND - the 1910 shows Martin and Charlotte living in Rolling Green township - they list that they have been married for 1 year and that Martin immigrated to the US in 1907.

The 1920 US census shows Martin immigrated in 1907 and Charlotte in 1909. They have five children, all born in ND, including a daughter who appears older than the son Joseph. Martin has a brother also living in the household who says he immigrated in 1911.

The more information the easier to find these people before they left from Norway.

So, have you looked for marriage records from North Dakota for Martin and Charlotte?

When Charlotte Otilie emigrated in 1908 it was to get married.
Her baptismal record is #101 Sjalotte Otilie on right page. She was born out of wedlock. Her father was agronomist Peter Emil Pedersen and her mother was Maren Sofie Olsdatter.
She was confirmed Oct 4 1896, see #123.
Charlotte and Martin have most likely met in Oslo, see here.

Since Martin emigrated in 1907, this is likely him.
His baptismal record is #50 showing his parents Josef Pedersen and Maren Johannesen having been married 8 years and had 5 children.
Martin moved out from Aadal 1907 going to "Amerika" see #1.
his parents and siblings in 1900.
It looks like Martin had moved to Oslo to learn his profession as instrument maker, see here.

Hi,

You have received good help here.

This is a Martin Pederson found in the North Dakota Public Death Index online who may be your ancestor. It might be worthwhile to get a death certificate for him or other candidate Martin Pedersons to find what data was known about his/their parentage at the time of his/their death.

PEDERSON, MARTIN 07/08/1928 Ward MALE 45 Years 06/16/1883 North Dakota Ward

This may also be your Martin Pederson, found in the Naturalization records index at the Institute for Regional Studies website. Naturalization records of the era (ca. 1914) to typically have lots of information about the person, their family and their travel arrangements to the states.
I believe that you may order a copy of this record at the State Historical Society of North Dakota:

Pederson Martin Norway 2nd June 06, 1914 Ward P-35 100
