Hi,

I'm looking for any info relating to my g-g-grandfather, Henry Robertsen (or Hendrik Roberthsen ??). He was a seaman and he jumped off his ship in Quebec in around 1890 with two of his friends. We have a picture of him in his seaman uniform, so we assume he was a seaman. Apparently the ship was quarantined for a desease. It was transporting wood from Quebec to Norway. I looked through the 1875 census records and found an Hendrik Roberthsen living in Hadsel, Nordland, born in 1869. It could be him but we'd like to have info on this ship and it's crew to confirm. Some people say it was the "Kurst ??".. or something like that...

Thanks,

Are you sure the one you found in Hadsel is the right person? Do you actually know where in Norway he lived?

Hi,

All we know, is that he was born around 1869. So we looked through the 1875 census records for all the cities and there was one Hendrik Martin Robertsen (1866) but I saw him again later around 1900 so it can't be my g-g-grand-father. The other one is Hendrik Roberthsen (1869). That's it.. there are no other Hendrik Robertsen. By the way, there's only a handfull of Robertsen in the 1875 records (less that 100).

Thanks,

Carl

What you can find in the online 1875 census is far from complete. To find Henry's sailors records it is important to know where he lived when he went to sea. You should try to find some leads from naturalization papers or other records in the US, which might reveal something about his residence in Norway. Btw, does the sailor uniform have any signs or names on it?
