Looking for info on John or "Ola" Brenna and Kari Brenna who settled in the Brenna township in Grand Forks County of North Dakota. Children were Henry, Mari, Nils, Oscar and Albert. Oscar had two daughters with his first marriage to Christine, Adella and V. Doris, the children of his second marriage to Bessie Mahlum Berg were Oscar Allen and Harold Dean and Patty Ann. They moved to Vancouver, Washington in the 1940's after the daughter was killed by a hit and run driver at age 3 when they lived in Grand Forks.

Hi,
I think you should refer to the other topic, so that people don't search in vain...
Here is his emigration.

Be careful of whatever translating system you appear to be using.

Something has changed Ole to John and makes a number of errors in translation from the original:

"2. Ola Helgeson Hellingbrenna 02.02. 1848-1934
G 1877 m Kari Nilsdtr. TrillhusBerget. Barn: Henry 1877-1963 overtok farmen; Mari 1879-1891; Nels 1883-1885; Nils 1887- ; Oscar 1888- i Vancouver, Wash.; Albert 1896- i Long Beach, Cal.; Anna ... gm Andrew Mahlum, Portland, Oregon (minst 2 barn).

Hi lb,

You will enjoy seeing some of the newspaper clippings at www.genealogybank.com First click on Historical Newspapers and then narrow to North Dakota, the Grand Forks Herald is covered there in dates from 1879-1922. You will find TONS of stuff on your Brenna family. The looks are free but to get the full article you must take a subscription.

There are several other databases of North Dakota material which might assist your research:

www.und.nodak.edu/dept/library/digital/index.htm" target="_blank">http://www.und.nodak.edu/dept/library/digital/index.htm

https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/doh/certificates/deathCertSearch.htm

http://library.ndsu.edu/archives/biography-genealogy

The Aal bygdebok scope was to capture vital information on all the immigrants, the immigrant's spouses, the names and vital data on their children and the children's spouses and the number of grandchildren. In the other topic you mentioned another Ole whose wife was Guri this is a brother to your Ole but his actual name is Ørjans a name which is often rendered over here as Eugene, or Jens or something else. The special letters in the Norwegian alphabet are confusing to Yankees!

In the bygdebok page referenced there are five generations of names mentioned. If you look above family 1153 you will see Holge as a child in his birth family and so Ola Olssen was his father. The parents of each set of parents are also given, if known, in the text right under the parents' names.

This is probably the marriage record of your Ole & Kari found at www.mncounty.com

OLMSTED E381 (B05343AA.AQK) 2/8/1877 HELGESON, OLE NELSON, CARRIE

Hilsen,
Jackie M.
