I know that my brother, Larry, has put some info somewhere. I need to follow up on that. I thought it was mainly the Gregg side of the family. I think I added some information at one time, also. I'll check it out. Thanks for the reminder. It would be nice to put it all together.

What I would like is to find any living relatives on the Knutsen/Sando side of the family. I am curious to know what my grandpa's childhood was like. I'd like to know if his brother, Knut, had a family here and if there are any cousins to contact.

I haven't had time to sit and make a chart, but that would be helpful. I'll see if I can do that on the ancestry site without paying to view it. Right now, it's hard for me to sort all of the information. Do you know if this site has a chart format that people can use to input the names? I didn't see anything like that.

Thank you for your help.

Knut Jonasen came from a farm on Sandoy called Toregarden, Named after off course someone way back called Tore.

Toregarden was in 1801 owned by Jon Nilsen (672911), farmer and pilot, and by that time considered to be quit a wealthy man owning several properties.
He was also very well known for his tremendous strength
However him and his son Paul Jonasen (672923) both died at sea, fishing for food.

Lets stop there for a moment.

Frekgarden was a close by farm to Toregarden.
This farm was bought in 1751 by Jonas Pedersen from Husoy (Ona)
His son, Fredrik Jonasen (672946), 1750-1821 became the farmer here in 1769.
Again the son of the house , Jonas Fredriksen (672942) took the position as farmer after his father.
Jonas married with a woman with the name of Nille Jonsdatter (672914), daughter of Jon Nilsen at Toregarden.
Jonas died however young in 1811 about 30 years old. They had at this time a son Fredrik Jonasen

After becoming a widow and losing her father an brother a few years later on, Nille was the head of two farms, both Frekgarden and Toregarden.

Nille then re-married with Knut Pedersen (672935) son of Peder Stenersen (672933) and Anne Paulsdatter (672934),
They chose to run the farm Toregarden, and due to the age of the upcoming inheritor for Frekgarden, Fredrik, was to young at that time,
the farm was then put out on contract for 10 years in 1820 to Ole Olsen Raknestangen, my GGGG Grandfather.

The plan was for Fredrik to resume running the farm within the family as he grew up, but he died in 1831.

Most likely my GGGG Grandfather continued as a user of the farm until the next inheritor could claim the farm.

This was Paul Knutson Sandoy b. 1820, the son of Nille and Knut. He might have resumed Frekgarden around 1840 or right after this.
Paul (Paal) took Frekgarden and moved it to Gaasoy in 1858 and setteled there as the first one on that island. It was before that only used as pasturage for the owners.
He also became the first Mayor in Sandoy in 1867 as it became a separate municipality. Paul travelled to Sweden to speak to the king in behalf of the people in Sandoy for this purpose.

His brother Jonas Knutson took over Toregarden after his parents.

This is the father of your great grandfather Knut Jonasen 1855 (number 3 on the list). Knut became the owner of the farm as the oldest son.

Yes there was a second brother that also emigrated to US, also named Knut, but he returned later to Sandoy as Paul stayed back.
I'm not sure, but I have heard that he made him selve a good buisness over there.

Your Grandfathers brother, Jonas Knutsen, as the rest with allodi law, inherited Toregarden. Also called Tore-Jonas.
It was quit common at my island that people used the farms name in front of the name of the owner as a nickname.

I can remember sligtly Jonas as a kid as i was born in 1971 and moved to the island at the age of 4. I also remember his sisters Marta and Jakobia, not living far off where i did. Two old nice ladies, unmarried and living together.

Jonas again got quit a few children, the one that inherited the farm was Jostein J. Sandoy b.1932.
He still lives there with his wife Erna Sandoy.
Children Randi , Bjornar (deceased), John Harry b.1963 (living on sandoy) and Kjell Ove b.1969

Hopefully I have managed to get most of this correct :)
