One isssue with the Knut Knutson cited above is the reference to him being born in Illinois. The Knut Knutson, son of John and Martha Knutson was born in Norway in abt 1865. But here is the reference anyway. It is interesting that they did name one of their children Margrete. 1910 US Census.

I did query Bonnie through Ancestry.com, here is her reply. Sorry that the query did not lead to much new information.

I'm sorry, but I don't know very much about the Knutson family. Emil J. Knutson (son of Johnie) was married to Mabel J. Herring and after their divorce, Mabel married my Dad's cousin William George Lemke. That is the connection to my family.

Hi, and thank you, I took a look at 1880 census now when I know who I am looking for, M. Knudson, found that Margrete,s oldest daughter Isabelle was born Iowa. May be they lived a few years with their fellow citizen at Calamus.
Margrete Larsdatter Hjelmeland had several first cousin living in Ill. at that time. Two of them, Gjert Gjertson and Tørres came to America 1861. I know a lot about them. My daughter also came in touch with Bonnie and had the same answer, thank you. Regards Magnar

The son I was referring to was the SECOND son named Knud - the one born in Illinois 12 July 1865 and baptized 27 Aug 1865 at West Lisbon Lutheran.
The first posting of this thread mentioned a first son named Knud who was born in Norway in 1857 -- different person.

Here is a more useful e-mail reply. It comes from the owner of the Ancetry.com Family Tree containing Annie Margarite Knutson who married John K Johnson and who is referenced above. It does provide some confirmation that most if not all of the people listed in the above postings belong to your Johannes Knudson Bondhus and Margarete Larsdatter family tree. The second e-mail from Ashley is the important one.

I actually just found there name. My Great Aunt has a whole book on the Johnson side of my family and has an article from Annie's sister. It says that they were John and Margaret Hjelmeland Knutson and they left Bergen Norway to come to the US. Let me know if you have any info on Annie i only have her and now her parent other than that i have no siblings.

Thanks
Ashley

Thank you, Thank you. Now we can be sure that we are on the tail of the right people. Think they first came to Calamus as I have mentioned in an earlier postings. The family of Margrete Larsdatter Hjelmeland moved away from Kvinnherad, I am in touch with a great grand daughter of a brother of Margrete, Lars Larson. The had problem to find back to their roots even she use Hjelmeland as surname. Best regards Magnar.
