The History Channel is running a series called "Vikings" which aired (the first program I think) last Sunday night. I really enjoyed it, costuming great, (no horned helmets, Yay) ice blue eyes, etc. etc. It's not a Norwegian film per se but a series about Norwegians or Scandinavians from the Viking age, perfecting their craft, on their way to becoming global traders. Hope the goodness continues.

Hello Dear Friends.

My wife and I have been watching the vikings on hulu.com. the first season had 9 episodes. It is somewhat interesting but I wish they would focus much more on the cultural aspects. There is too much violence but perhaps this is accurate. I was surprised to learn that the Vikings sacrificed humans at Uppsula, Sweden......that was very surprising.

All in all, though, I find the show entertaining.

Best to all!

I watched the Vikings on the History Channel this last season and I was hooked. By the end of the season, my husband was hooked also. Can't wait for the next season.

Erik, I think we do have to remember, that this was a pagan religion. They gave offerings, so that their crops would come in, their raids would be plentiful, etc.... Just a very different way of thinking, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the Priest starts to bring Christianity to the Vikings. I think, he will start with Ragnar's wife.

If they follow the Sagas, it will get quite interesting for Ragnar.

Kontiki has finally come to the U.S. Look in your areas, if you are interested. I'm going to try to see it this weekend. It was showing in Norway, when I was there last summer, but it wouldn't have had subtitles, which I think I need to enjoy the movie. :-) Can't wait! Has anyone else seen it and did you like it?

I've seen it!
And yes, I liked it quite well! The scenes are shot in a very professional way.
In fact, Hollywood (Disney) liked it so much that the directors Joachim Rĝnning and Espen Sandberg now have been chosen to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

Thank you! I'm excited to see it. They must of done a very good job, if they are going to do the next Pirate's movie.

From what I've seen so far, it is only being shown in Independent movie houses, so you've really got to look for it. Sundance Cinemas are showing it, but they are only in Madison and San Francisco. It is being shown in limited release only.

In Norway, it was in Norwegian, I believe. I would of needed English subtitles there, but I'm happy that it's in English here.

Dear Friends...Netflix has another Norwegian movie and I like it...it was Into the White, about German/British pilots who get shot down over Norway and end up sharing a hunting cabin...

best to all.
