Again in the 1870 census for Fillmore Co. Minnesota -- an Andrew Benson, 19 yrs old, born Norway AND an A.T. Benson, 29 yrs old?, born Norway.
Possibly the brothers, Andreas and Anders Christian?

Census-1860 for Rushford, Fillmore, MN shows this family: Torkel Benson m 55 Norway (Est. b 1805) Caroline Benson f 50 Norway (Est. b 1810) Andrew T. Benson m 19 Norway (Est. b 1841) William Benson m 17 Norway (Est. b 1843) Mary Benson f 13 Norway (Est. b 1847) Christian Benson m 10 Norway (Est. b 1850) Caroline Benson f 7 Norway (Est. b 1853)
Compared with the emigration record from Gjerpen, Telemark in 1857: Torkel Børresen Ekornrød, 54 (Est. b 1803) Karen Kirstine Aslaksdatter, 42 (Est. b 1815) Andreas 17 (Est. b 1840) Børre 14 (b 1843) Marthe Marie 9 (b 1847) Anders Christian 6 (b 1851) Karen Thorine 3 (b 1854)
And you get: Torkel Benson (Est. b 1805) = Torkel Børresen Ekornrød (Est. b 1803) Caroline Benson (Est. b 1810) = Karen Kirstine Aslaksdatter (Est. b 1815) Andrew T. Benson (Est. b 1841) = Andreas (Est. b 1840) William Benson (Est. b 1843) = Børre (b 1843) Mary Benson (Est. b 1847) = Marthe Marie (b 1847) Christian Benson (Est. b 1850) = Anders Christian (b 1851) Caroline Benson (Est. b 1853) = Karen Thorine (b 1854)
Børre would be a difficult name to use in America, so maybe he was nicknamed Bill? And from there, in official papers, it became William?

Yes. That' s the explanation. Børre = Bill = William = Bertil William |

I wanted to thank everyone all their help on this! I don't think I would have ever found them. I'm so excited to have the door open again to keep exploring my Norwegian roots!
