My great-uncle was on a Norwegian navy (it may have been a merchant marine) ship that sank between Cuba and Florida. This happened while my mother was still in school and she graduated high school in 1938. Some of the crew including my great-uncle Johan Oskar Johansen (or Hansen) were rescued.

After this incident the survivors were taken to Florida and on to New York where they got on another ship (unknown if it was a Norwegian naval ship) headed back to Norway. They ran into a bad storm off the coast of England and once again sank but this time there were no survivors.

I am looking for the name of the two ships and the timeframe.

Thanks

Charles Matson
