Did he emigrate somewhere or stay in Norway? Did he get married? To who?

In the 1900 census there is a Bernt Peterson in Manistee Co, Mich , birthdate listed as Sept,1869 (maybe he was baptized Oct 27? ) Wife Anna and daughters Gertrude and Lilly? It does have him down as Swedish though.

Do you know when Bernt emigrated?
A farmname, place, anything even it seems strange.

Another possibility.
If his fathers lastname was Petersen Bernt was propbably christened under another lastname.

An hypotetical example (acc. Norwegian traditional naming practices);
Bernt´s father was Ole Petersen, Bernt was christened Bernt Olsen (Oles son) and could have changed to Petersen in the US.
If his father was Lars Petersen he was christened Bernt Larsen.

Certain is that we´re looking for Bernt born Oct. 27. 1869.

In the 1900 census for Sundal Twsh, Norman County, Minnesota there is a Bernt M. Pederson, born Oct 1869 in Norway, emigrated in 1886.
He was the brother in law of the housefather Halvor Pederson, married to Karoline M. Pederson.
It is reasonable to think the Bernt was a M..sen, and Karoline a M..datter.

Hi,

Here is a Bernt Pederson in the Minnesota online death index:

PEDERSON, BERNT MARTINES
Date of Birth: na
Place of Birth: na
Mother Maiden Name: na
certid# 1923-MN-015539
Date of Death: 11 Jun 1923
County of Death: SWIFT

Don't know if this is your guy or not. But will suggest that you also browse in the pilot search at www.familysearch.org as they have a couple of database there of Michigan marriages and births and deaths, perhaps you can find something about the Manistee Bernt.

Good Luck,

Jackie M.

Berndy Petersen born 27 oct 1869 in Laerdalsoyri OR Valdersund Trondjum, Norway.
Died 5 Mar 1930 in Seattle, Washington.
Married to: Ingrid Olsson 26 Mar 1904 either in Seattle, Washington or Vancover, British Columbia, Canada. Ingrid Olsson born 13 April 1880 Kristianstad County (now Skane County) Sweden.
We were told Berndt left Norway when he was 14 on a sailing ship and ended up in Vancover Canada as his port of entry. Supposely his father died around the time he left.
Trying to find Berndt Petersen parents when they were born, married, died and buried and siblings if any. I have picture of him if that would help

Your Bernt Petersen, born Oct 27 1869, is listed as baptized in 1870 in Bjugn parish (Valdersund) Sør-Trøndelag, see #1.
He was a child born out of wedlock, his mother was Anne Martha Arntsdatter living at Sæther farm, father is not recorded (reason may be that the record is based on registration to the common statistical agency - parish records were destroyed by fire).
Due to the fire further info cannot be found from parish records.

In the 1865 census tailor and bachelor Peter Johannesen were a lodger at the Sæter farm and he might very well be Bernts father since according to naming practice his fathers given name would be Peter.

Bernt Petersen, born 27 Oct 1869 in Laerdalsoyri or Valdersund Trondjum Norway.
He married Ingrid Ollson on 26 March 1904 in Vancouver Canada. She was born 13 April 1880, Kristianstad Sweden.
We were told he left Norway at 14 abroad a sailing ship and landed in Canada. i found online an Ingrid Olsen and Brent Pterson marriage 16 Mar 1906 in Vancouver Canada BCA# B11373,
Reg # 1906-09-052680, GSO# 1983530
They had a son Albert Oswald Garfield Petersen born 9 Apr 1905 in New Westminster, British Columbus. Bernt lived and died in Washington.
On an application for citizenship Bernt's son Albert listed father's name as Berndt Petersen OR Barndt Sunde. We are trying to confirm information about Bernt. We had heard "rumors" that Bernt had stolen this name. We only have one picture. Any suggestions?

This may be your guy (found in Washington State Digital archives online):

Collection: King County Clerk, Naturalization Records, 1906-1928
County: King

Name: Berndt Petersen
Naturalization Id: 5295
County: King
Document Type: Petition for Naturalization
Volume: 18
Document Number: 4162
Country Of Origin: Trondhjem, Norway
Date Of Document: 2/18/1919

Really hard to say if this is your guy or not, but the name starts with Bern, last name starts with Pe and also includes Sunde, age is 26 in 1896 so about right for someone born 1869-1870, leaving as a resident of Borgund:

Lærdalsoyri and Valdersund are 2 different places in Norway. Just out of curiousity where did you pick up the information about the 2 place names?

His birthdate I assume you've done the math counting back the years, months and days from those recorded in his death record. (By the by, my software program makes the actual date 28 Oct 1869.)

In his naturalization record he lists his birth place as Trondhjem and his birth date as 27 Oct 1869, which is probably where the original poster obtained the birth date.
