Does anyone know what happened to the Bark Rubens after it sailed from Christiania to Quebec in 1869?
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
There is a lot of shipping news at www.genealogybank.com in their historical newspaper division.
The words "bark rubens" gathers 4 references; 2 in 1863, 1 Aug and 18 Sept in the New York Herald' 1-- 9 Feb 1878 in the New York Herald and the last 1879 on 18 April in the Louisiana Times Picayune.
Don't know if it refers to the same bark or not, but the last article title index words involve a quarantine of some sort.
Good luck,
Jackie M. |

There is not much we know about her movement after she left Quebec some 3 weeks after arrival there with emigrants, but she showed up in Hull July 21’st. Where she sailed after that is unknown. Due to her movement previous year she could have sailed to the Mediterranean.
Her is her movement in 1858 1868: April 19 Limerick from Drøbak, Capt. Johnsen May 14 leaving Limerick for Quebec May 23 reported sailing west; by a Steamship from Quebec to Londonderry July 11 in Quebec from Limerick, loading planks at Rimauski September 3 London from Quebec, leaving Sept. 19 for Newcastle and Alexandria (Newcastle is known for coal, on return she could carry fruit to England or make a stop in Spain/Portugal to carry salt back home to Norway)
1859 1869: April 17 Leaving Christiania (Oslo) with emigrants May 2 off Soutwold: from Christiania to Quebec June 14 Quebec from Christiania
July August 21 Hull from Quebec
So far known for 1870: April 27 London from Christiania

Thank you, so much! So it did sail after it reached Quebec in 1869. That is a start! Is there a way to find out about crew members that may have been on the sailing from Christiania to London in 1870? I have not come up with anything for the Bark Rubens in my searching, so anything would be helpful.
Thanks again for your help, Wanda |

A typo perhaps, should that be 1868 Port of Limerick Shipping Intelligence, Rubens Captain Johnson, Drobak, inward with ice outward in ballast for Quebec 16th May 1868

Yes, that's a typo. It should have been 1868 and 1869. Your information has been added to the Rubens page. Thank you!
