Seeking information about my female ancestor, supposedly named Karen Johannesdatter Monshaugen. She is said to have been born in Norway in 1838, but I have no idea where it might be. Her parents are said to be Johans Rasmussen and Ane, and later in life she had a stepmother. Any information would be very much appreciated. With so little information I don't know where to turn. Karen later emigrated to the United States and settled in Wisconsin. She married Gullik Olson and died in 1866.

Can anyone tell the name of the farm where Johannes Rasmussen and Mari Johannesdatter were living when their daughter Kari was born in 1836? Also, can anyone determine when Mari died? I am guessing that it occurred before her husband and daughter left for North America in 1857, but I cannot find a record for it.

Hi

The farm-name is Skurdalseie. It is a sub-farm to a larger farm named Skurdal.

When Johannes and Karen leaves the parish, Johannes is listed as a "Gift mann" which means married man.
