Looking for information on Arent Brad, a ggg?grandfather and family in Norway. Arent Bradt born about 1549 in Fredrikstad, Norway. Died between 1583-1640. His spouse is unknown but had at least one child, named Andriese Arentse Bradt born about 1578 in Fredrikstad, Smaalenenes, now Ostfold, Norway. Andriese married Aeffi (Eva) Kinetis about 1583 in Fredrikstad. Am wondering if there are more definite dates or more children born. Thankyou. |

I managed to translate this page from a newspaper "Fredrikstad Blad" from Jan. 5. 2011, but when I posted it it turned into Norwegian again?
This is probably the same family. Albert Andriessen Bradt born in Fredrikstad who emigrated to the Dutch colony Rensselaerswyck west in todays New York 1637. A small river Normannskil is named after Albert Bradt The photo on top is members of the Bradt family on a familyreunion in New York 1997.
Source, John O. Evjen: Norwegian Immigrants in New York 1630-1974 Source, Peter Christoph; A norwegian family in colonial America
I think the family also used Bratt as family name.
A curiosity; Tomb Bratt was an old Norwegian noble family from the middle age.

Hi, it seems like Arent Bradt´s wife was unknown. If she survived him she could be mentioned in the probate register or in the tax-register.
More Bradt genealogy here correspond with the newspaper article.

Thankyou, that is interesting information. There is information on the net, from after some immigrated but less infromation, from when they lived in Norway. I hadn't heard the name Tomb Bratt before, so will look that up too. They probably aren't in the Norway parish records then. Wasn't sure would one would look in them. Ostfold is in Rennesoy area isn't it? Then with the born about dates, it makes it more difficult to find. I can print up the newspaper article and send it to my Norwegian friend. Then she will phone and tell me what it all says. Thanks for trying to translate it for me though. Diane |

Hi, Rennesĝy is a municipality in Rogaland County, south-west Norway .
Ĝstfold County and Fredrikstad town is close to the Swediah border in Eastern Norway.
The families Tomb, Ku til Tomb, Tomb til Bratt, Bratt and Bolt were close related, all mighty families in the middleage in Norway.

Sorry, I meant to say Rogaland. Will definitely have to look up on the Tomb family. It sounds like it could be very interesting. Thanks again, Diane |
