Greetings. I'm still on the lookout form my great grandfather's parents. All I know about my great grandfather was that he was bon in Norway and migrated to the UK where he met my great grandmother, Mary Ann Lavender. He married her in 1867 and they had their first son, Neils on 5 October 1869 in Glasgow, Scotland. Their children were Neils, Edward, Hannah Sophia, Ada, John Henry and Harold Reginald (my Grandfather). I have been searching by way of ellimination with the little Norge information I have.Any assistance would be gratefully received. Regards Brennan Kerr Nelson

Further to the above, he does not appear in either the Scots or English census in 1861 so he must have migrated from Norge, probably Oslo, between May 1861 and late 1866.

Hi,

What's Edvard's birth date (approximate if you don't have exact)?

At the Norwegian Digitalarkivet in the 1865 census transcription there are over 8000 with names beginning with ed(with at least 28 spelling variations on the end part) and 130 with last name beginning Niel___. There is at least one person in every fylke.

Another issue for you is that the registry databases of Norwegian migrants begin about 1866 (when the regulations about registering began). Migration records before that are an "iffy" thing and are usually found as in and out migrants listings in each parish register. The parishes are numerous to search.

Hilsen,
Jackie M.
