I have been working on my family tree and my gt. gt. grandpa was Simon Olsen
Solheim - Solem, and he had a brother Anders Olsen Solem, who was born in 1851.
This whole family was said to have come to America. Simon had Anders born in
1851, and a brother Ole born in 1856, who seem to have disappeared. I couldn't
find any data on them emigrating from Norway on the digitalarkivet. I also never
found mention of them dying in the church records before the family did their
mass migration over here....... so not sure if they died before the family came
over, or if they took a different port out of the country....... but there is a
good chance they came over at some point. It appears the family came a couple to
three at a time over the course of about 5 to 6 years..... My Simon came in 1878.
Some of Simon's family went by Solheim - Solem, and some by Olsen...... His
stepmother was Martha Jonsdatter Vereid.
Anyway, my Simon and his brother Anders were born at Hyen, Norway, in Sogn og
Fjordane, "Nordfjord," and were in the Gloppen Parish.
Can you find any records or the parents and children and who came to America? Thank you. |

This is Simon, his parents and siblings in 1865.
Anne Sofie was Ole Andersen, Solems first child, born Aug 25 1846, see #43. The mother was Kirstine Steffensdatter.
Simon was born March 18 1849, see #10.
Anders was born June 28 1851, see #37.
The daughter Kristiane was born out of wedlock Nov 29 1859, Ole Andersen was then a widower and the mother was Marthe Jonsdatter, Vereide, see #46.
Johanne Marie was born Dec 17 1861, see #7.
Oline was born Sept 9 1864, see #54.

Ole Andersen and Kirstine Steffensdatter were married July 9 1843, see #32. Ole was 31 years and came from Solem, Kirstine was 23 years and came from Horstad.
Kirstine Annele Steffensdatter was baptized Oct 2 1819, see 10th record on right page. Her parents were Stephen Simonsen, Horstad and Oline Nilsdatter.
Widower Ole Andersen, Solem (47 years) and Marthe Jonsdatter, Vereide (35 years) were married July 9 1860, see #23.
Ole Andersens father was Anders Simonsen and Marthes father was Jon Absalonsen.
Kirstine Steffensdatter died Oct 16 1858, see #33.
The record says she was buried in Kinn, see between #95 and 96. She died in childbirth without redemption.

Simon Olsen and Synneve Pedersdatter were married July 2 1877, see #9.
May 15 1878 they emigrated to US, see here.
Simons sister Oline emigrated with them.
Ane Sofie, most likely emigrated April 16 1886, see Anne.
Christiane emigrated with her.
Marthe Johnsdatter emigrated April 14 1886, see here.
Oleana emigrated with her.

| So what happened to Anders? And do you think Marthe had a child Oleana and that is the one listed as immigrated April 14, 1886 with her and Johanne because I see Anne Sofie immigrated April 16, 1886 with Simmon. |

Oleane Elisabeth was Ole Andersen and Marthes daugter, born Dec 9 1867, see #1.
It seems like Johanne Marie emigrated in 1886, see here.
Ole Andersen died Aug 12 1882, see #17.
I believe Anders died Jan 20 1877 even though the birth year is 2 years off, see #18.

| My wifes gt. grandfather, Johannes Olsen Solem, was also a son of Simon Olsen Solem. Johannes emigrated as well, but he went back to Norway where he died. I guess he lived at the same place as the rest of his family when he lived in the states. I would appreciate it very much if anyone can provide me with any information about where he actually lived when he was in the states. Johannes was the son of Martha Jonsdatter Vereide who also emigrated. It would also be great if anyone can provide me with any information about what happened to her after she emigrated, where did she live, when did she die etc. If there happen to exist any photos of her it would be amazing. Hope anyone will be able to help me. |

It is all a little confusing to read this topic, but there is a Family Tree with this family. It shows that a Ole Solheim Andersen born 1812 died 12 Aug 1882 • Hyen, Gloppen Parish, Norway but his wife Marie Johnsdatter Vaereidsvik born abt 1825 died 1895 • Pierpont, Day Co., South Dakota, USA.
A little hard to find information on many of the family members since they used very common last name of Olson or Anderson but here is Simon Olson who died in Day County South Dakota.

So if Martha arrived in 1886 and then died in 1895 she would not have left much of a record. But much of the family seems to have been found in Day County, South Dakota. |

| Thank you so much for your answer. But I believe you are right. Apperently I was in a bit of a hurry when I read the census, Johannes was, as you said, the son of Ole Jakobsen, not Ole Andersen. |

| The Johannes Olai you found that went over in 1884 is the correct person. According to my wifes family he apparently went back and fort several times. I have also found him as leaving Bergen again at the 8.th. of may 1891. If you were to find anything I would be very happy#128522;. |
