I know a lot about the life in America of Bertha Olsen after she married Martin Olsen. But I do not know the names of her parents. She came to America as Bergitte Aanensen. She arrived on 17 June 1898 in New York on the Thingvalla. She left Norway on June 3 1898 and is found as #31255 in the list of Emigranter fra Kristiansand. Found here Bergitte

I have searched through the Church books for Arendal for 1876,1877 and 1878 as well as the Church books for Åmli, Aust-Agder. She is thought to be a cousin of my Grandfather and he is found in the Åmli, Tovdal scanned church book.

Any information on the parents of Bergitte Aanensen would be appreciated.

Your suggestion is well worth following up on. Vrold Aanonsen could be an unknown brother of Marthe Aanonsdatter Klepsland born Feb 12, 1836 of parents Aanon Osmundson Klepsland and Anne Wralsdatter Rostveit. That would make Birgette a 1st cousin of all the children mentioned above.
The only sibling of Marthe I have been able to find to date is Torborg Aanonsdatter Klepsland born March 28, 1842. 21 Right Side

Hi.

Vraal Aanonsen age 35 and Aslaug Knudsdatter age 25 married in Tovdal in Åmli Oct. 17. 1868.
Vraal lived on Skjægge-/Skjeggedal when he married, see right page #4

Vraal´s family status on Skjæggedal was "Inderst", a relative to the owners.

Torber Aanundsdatter age 23 born in Evje worked on Søndre Skjæggedal in 1865.

Vraal Aanensen b. July 24, bap. Aug. 11. 1833 in Evje:
Parents: Aanen Osmundsen and Anne Vraalsdatter Klepsland, see #24

Vraal was named after his mothers father, acc. traditional Norwegian naming practice he had an older brother Osmund.

- small correction, she was born Febr 12 1837, baptized March 26, see #16, she was confirmated 1852, see #21.

Aanen and Anne were married Nov 20 1829, see #25.

Their first child was Michel, see #35.

I think there existed two Aanen/Aanon Osmundsen married to Anne Vraalsdatter in the same area.

Children of Aanen/Aanon Osmundsen Klepsland and Anne Wraalsdatter Rostveit:

- Osmund b. on Skjæggedal in Tovdal June 11. 1831, see #6
- Vraal July 24.1833 in Evje
- Marthe Feb. 12. 1837 in Evje
- Torberg March 28. 1842 in Evje.

Aanon Osmundsen, widower on Rougstøl (Raustøl), supported by the poor relief fund 1865, his son Osmund married to Anne Johnsdatter, farmer and owner of Raustøl, 2 sons and 2 daughters.

Based on the above information the following would seem reasonable.

Children Osmund 1831, Vraal 1833, Marthe 1837, Torborg 1842
Parents Aanon and Anne
Parents of Aanon are Osmund and Marte
Parents of Anne are Vral and Tobor

Michel does not fit the naming pattern, so perhaps he is from the second group of Aanen/Aanon Osmundsen and Anne Vralsdatter
