Randi Olsdtr., born 13 Feb. 1826 at Gausdal, daughter of Ole Johansen and Anne Olsdatter, lived at Skaarslien with her family. In some old family notes I have finally found where a Randi Olsdatter married Ole Johansen Lebakken. In searching Gausdal marriage records, I have found (P.249) No. 28 Ole Johnsen, son of John Olsen, married Randi Olsdatter, dau. of Ole Johnsen, Dec. 29, 1952. Then, on p. 252, I found No. 25, Ole Johansen, age 23, son of Johans Olsen married Randi Olsdatter, age 27, dau. of Ole Johanssen. They are listed on different farms in each of the records. Both these Randi's fit the right age of "my" Randi. Could the same couple have married again or is there any way to determine which of these two couples might be who I am looking for? They have a daughter, Oline Johansen Lebakken, who appears to have been born in Zumbrota, MN in 1863. Suggestions?
Thank you, Dusty

They are two different couples, about the same age and with almost same names. But here I think they are consistent in regarding John and Johan as different names.
The first married couple get a son John April 25 1853, and your folks, the second couple, get a son Johan Sept 28 1853.

If your Randis confirmation is #75 here:

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8939&idx_id=8939&uid=ny&idx_side=-158

..then there seems to be a match in vaccination date (Oct 1, 1827) with the Randi marrying Ole Johansen June 24, 1853.

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8940&idx_id=8940&uid=ny&idx_side=-257

They are resident in "Rognvannslien"/Rognvann.

Thank you for the very helpful information. I'm really glad you mentioned about the vaccination info. as I was unaware of what those numbers meant. I have some confirmation records from other family members and now that I know they are included on some of the marriage records, I can make comparisons to see if I indeed have the right record for "my" people. This is a BIG help to help me with other research. I did find the moving out record for this family in 1857 with their 2 children born in Norway. :) -Dusty

Only pleased to be of help!

..I think your Randi and her elusive brother Ole may have had another brother Amund, b 14.1.1837 who did a career at the Norwegian Post service?

Yes, this Amund is a brother to them. Another member had copied this information to me previously, but I do thank you for bringing it up as it is very good information! They also have another brother, John, who was born Oct. 13, 1846 and baptized Oct. 25, 1846 Skaarseie, Gausdal. From census records, he too appears to be a postmaster by Steamer. Is there any chance whereever you got this info. on Amund that it would also include a paragraph on John? In 1875, he is living in Trondheim Sor-Trondelag Co, married to Mathilde Olsen and 1900 census records have him at Nord-Trondelag Co. at Steinkjer, married to Anna Petrea Olsen. Thank you for your help! -Dusty

http://runeberg.org/norskpost/ ...on page 101 has a short paragraph on John Olson, brother to Amund Olson, John being born on Oct. 13, 1846. (I'm don't know how to highlite a page to get it to come up here like other people do). It is 10 lines long. I'm wondering if someone would possibly be able to translate this paragraph for me as this John is my great grandmother's brother and this gives more information about him. Thank you, Dusty

John Olsen, brother of aforementioned postmaster Amund Olsen, was born in Gausdal October 13 1846. After having been at a larger trading business for 4 ½ years in Lillehammer he was employed late 1865 on the route Kristiania-Copenhagen, where he was partly mail assistant and partly as px. During the herring fishery in the spring of 1867, he served as px., likewise during the fishing season 1868. With the exception of service in the spring 1869 on the route Bergen-Stavanger and some months on the route Kristiania-Copenhagen, he was from August 1868 px. on the route Hamburg-Vadsø, until he September 10 1889 became postmaster in Steinkjær.
