Dear Forum members, can anybody see anything on a John G. Hagen in NORWAY?
1900 Census shows he is born February 1847 and he immigrated to the United States in 1869. However, the 1920 Census records him arriving in 1847...and naturalized in 1855? (Born in Norway)
I see him in various U.S. census information but I don't know where he is from in Norway, and I cannot find him in the 1870 US Census, or in the 1975 Minnesota State Cenus.
In 1880 he is living in Evansville, Minnesota with his wife Ingeborg and their daughter Emilie, (7) born in Minnesota and Gilbert (3) also born in Minnesota.
He lived in Minnesota and died in Duluth , Minnesota on 4-21-1921.
thank you.

I have placed an order for his death certificate and it should arrive in a couple of weeks. This should give us his parents name and as soon as I have this information I will pass it on in here.
in the meanwhile I suggest we wait and not work on this
thank you. |

Hi,
According to Nordmændene i Amerika, John Hagen at Plummer left from Skanshagen, Elverum Norway in 1883, and came to Plummer in 1892. He has a son named Gudor J. Hagen, forretningsbestyrer in Clearbrook, Minnesota from 1908.
In the first post re: Gilbert Hagen the son, www.mnhs.org has this entry of the approximately correct age in death index:
HAGEN, GILBERT Date of Birth: 27 May 1876 Place of Birth: MINNESOTA Mother Maiden Name: na certid# 1963-MN-033097 Date of Death: 31 Jan 1963 County of Death: ST. LOUIS
Duluth historical newspapers are searchable in a couple of places online.
Here is a John Hagen d. 1921 from the Minnesota Deaths and Burials database at www.familysearch.org:
Name: John G. Hagen Gender: Male Burial Date: Burial Place: Death Date: 21 Apr 1921 Death Place: Duluth, St. Louis, Minnesota Age: 74 Birth Date: 1847 Birthplace: Occupation: Race: Marital Status: Spouse's Name: Father's Name: Gunder Hagen Father's Birthplace: Mother's Name: Mother's Birthplace: Indexing Project (Batch) Number: B02148-1 System Origin: Minnesota-EASy Source Film Number: 2218068 Reference Number: 23955-367

Hi Jackie..yes I am familiar and have information on his son Gilbert Hagan.
So John Hagan's father was Gunder? That is very helpful. I have a feeling his mother's name might be Johanna....

I do not think he is the right John Hagen either. For one thing this is probably him in the 1920 US Census living in Red Lake County as in his Passport Application.

And this is likely your John Hagen living in Duluth, St Louis, Minnesota. Likely two different people. Year of immigration is likely wrong.

Yes Erik and they are all residents of Elverum--probably the Plummer John G. Hagen and all are headed to Evansville.
There were also a couple of Gilbert Hagens. In the newspapers, in 1906 Gilbert Hagen lost a leg to a train accident and then it looks as though he had to sue his employer... That your Gilbert?
