Hei! I am looking for my grandpa`s mother, born in Løten, Norway, 07.05.1882. She was baptized Agnethe Andersen Ringnes, but she may have left as Anette Ringnes, with the ship Montebello from Oslo, 07.10.1904. She left her two children, born 1901 and 1903, and maybe she left under false name since she "escaped". Her parents in Norway were Anders Olsen, born 1842 and Petrine Mikkelsdatter, born 1849, in Løten. Somenone said she was supposed to visit and live with her sister Oline Wilsen in Boston, but I don`t know if that is a true story. If someone has some information or guide me to where I could seek some more info..I would be happy :-) Greetings from Norway, Per Jakob Haugaa |

Hei Per,
Here is a transcription of Agnes' listing in the 1910 census. Interesting her future husband (Emil Johnson) is also employed at the same place:

Interesting problem. These folks would have to be vetted, too. However, the birth record of Esther Victoria Johnson (which name doesn't appear in each of the households) gives her mother's maiden name as "Agnes Ringnas." But the same birth record doesn't count any of her children born in Norway--might reveal the motivation of continueing to leave them behind.
In the 2 from Middlesex county, there could be another marriage record between an Emil Johnson and an Agnes covered in the Massachusetts marriage index occuring about 1906. There is only one Ringnes in the familysearch index.
In the actual census listings is Agnes ascribed a Norway birthplace or Sweden (I see Sweden for Emil, what about Agnes?) And year date of arrival in the actual census for Agnes? And occupation for Emil in the census?
A little more looking needed....

Hi,
The Connecticut family were in the 1910 census, married with children. Obviously, Agnes & Emil are unlikely to be in 2 places at the same time, living as single people and then marrying in June 1910 in Massachusetts:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MK2Z-H8D
There didn't appear to be a marriage in Connecticut or Massachusetts for the couple in Connecticut, nor birth record for the son Arthur in the databases at www.familysearch.org in which to find the mother's maiden name.
The Ringnes name only occurs in relation to the Massachusetts (later Illinois and Wisconsin) couple. In the 1910, her name was transcribed as Ringess, on the marriage record as Ringnes, on the birth certificate of daughter Esther as Ringnas. Massachusetts Agnes birthplace is given in 1910 census as Norway, 1910 marriage record as Sweden, 1913 birth record as Hedemarken, 1920 and 1930 census transcriptions and actual schedules as Norway.
The Connecticut Agnes' birthplace given in 1910 as Connecticut, and parents born Sweden. So therefore no migration year is necessary. Massachusetts Agnes gives year of migration in 1910 as 1904 or 1905.
It's not really up to me to be satisfied or not but the best records indicate that the Massachusetts Agnes is the correct one.

I could not find an immigration record for Agnes from 1902-1906 in the archives of norway from Oslo or Kristiania or even in Ellis Island. |
