Lars Vikan was born June 13, 1868 in Norway and died Jan. 22, 1909 in South Dakota, USA. His fathers name was Gunder Vikan.

Could you help me out with his family and I think he came to the US in 1901 and passenger list? Thanks

I believe your Lars Vikan was born July 13 1867, see #47. He was born out of wedlock, father was Gunder Hansen, Karlsøe and the mother was Ane Thoresdatter, Husby.

Lars Gundersen, Vikan and Anna Regine Abrahamsdatter, Vikan were married Oct 29 1889, see #9. Lars father was tailor Gunder Hansen and Annas father was Abraham Larsen.

Anna Regina was born Febr 27 1868, see #11. Her parents were Abraham Larsen, Vikan and Ragnhild Olsdatter, see family in 1865.

Here is Anna with the children in the 1910 census (birthyears are wrong for Nils and John and all children are noted as fosterchildren)

So it seems that they had five children then--
Lars and Anna Reginas four sons:
Nils Alfred, born April 13 1891, #3,
John Rikard, born July 18 1893, #10,
Ludvik Arne, born April 22 1896, #6, and
Gustav Adolf, born Oct 25 1898, #16.

and Their last son; Johan Karelius was born March 30, 1901 and baptized after his father had left Norway.

Am I getting this right after looking at everyone's research?

I really appreciate all your hard work. This really help out. Lars Vikan is buried in the cemetery here but with no stone and I cannot find the plot were he is and all I know is he was a farm hand in the 1905 cendis records and he died in 1909. I cannot find a death certificate and do not know how he died. I don't know if came here to the US to earn money and then send for his family or not.

Hi,

Lars Vikan appears in two cemetery databases. Here is the one at www.findagrave.com:

www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=vikan&GSfn=lars&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=59065221&df=all&" target="_blank">http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=vikan&GSfn=lars&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=59065221&df=all&

If he has no headstone and there is no death record for him either county or state level then the church records themselves are the likely source for this information.

His burial also is found in the WPA cemetery transcription project at the State Historical Society of South Dakota website.
Copying in what the database has for him. No plot / lot number is given and death date varies also:

First Name Last Name Death Date Lot Number Block Number City County Cemetery Name
LARS VIKAN 09-05-1909 ALCESTER UNION ROSENI

You could also try local newspapers to see if there might be an account of his passing.

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1897

I am the one who put him on findagrave and I live 4 miles for the cemetery and have checked newspapers and courthouse papers. All I can find on Lars Vikan is he is buried at Roseni Cemetery and no stone or plot number and I have the churches burial records. I guess I will look further and I am thankful for all your help.
