Maybe so but looking over all data, albeit rather quickly, I did not see a reference to any one from Telemark. One from Vest Agder and several from Hedmak but no link to the uncle from Telemark.

Unfortunate & true, not so many mentioned as having gone to US, either. But you may have uncles by marriage or blood from your mother's side of the family, as well, nicht war?

Hm, maybe when Hans said he was going to his uncle A Bratrud he meant Andrew and not ุsten. Here is the couple in the 1900 US Census. Joseph Olson is also listed as having been born in Iowa. Could be Oline's brother.

Someone has added an alternative name for her at Ancestry.com

This is about the best fit for Olina Olson. No brother named Joseph but a brother named John close to the right age. However a Family Tree on Ancestry.com shows this person marrying a Benedict Olson. May be not the right Oline.

1870 United States Federal Census
Name: Olina Olson
Age in 1870: 10
Birth Year: abt 1860
Birthplace: Iowa
Home in 1870: Madison, Winneshiek, Iowa
Race: White
Gender: Female
Post Office: Decorah

Household Members:
Name Age
Herbrard Olson 40
Ingebor Olson 41
Rangnil Olson 15
Ole Olson 12
Kari Olson 11

I am loosing control now. Where does Bratrud come in?
I have read the document about Skjellerudsveen, and it contains my family including Marie, Oline, Hans and Syver. I have invited the author, Olav Thorstad, to join us. Are you working on the line from the brother of Olaus Hansen Aasen, the original Johannes Blomshield?
I am lost now.

I think the Johannes Blomshield line is fairly clear. Johannes Hansen Blomshield became John H. Blomshield of Bay City, Michigan. His son John Wesley Blomshield was the famous artist from New York. There are a large number of Blomshields with Personal Family Tree's on Ancestry.com. I think most of them if not all of them are related to you ie your cousins of one sort or another. Might be worth your while to join Ancestry.com for a year and access those Family Trees. Having a membership means you can send the Tree owner an e-mail. The system works same as the Norway Heritage e-mail system. As well as the Blomshields there is a Family Tree for Hans Aasen and Ada Elvina LaGresly on Ancestry.com whose owner you could contact.

What Jackie and I are trying to address is who is the person that Hans Olausen Aasen referred to when he listed as his destination his Uncle A Bratterud in Hillsboro North Dakota and how is this person his uncle. Nothing we have found sheds light on that question. It is about the only question left and perhaps we are beating on it a little to much but it is an interesting sidelight to your main Family Tree.

You are not lost, you have a good running record of the search and everything we found here at Norway Heritage. It just may take you some time to sort it all out.

Some things about Andrew Bratrud. In 1875 Minnesota State and Territorial Census he is living in Polk County, Minnesota with his first wife Sarah and his daughter Julia. In the 1885 Census he is still living in Polk County but first wife must be dead as there is only himself and Julia. In 1900 US Census he has a second wife Oline and is living in Becker County, Minnesota. His real name was probably Andrias and he died in Oct 5, 1919 in Becker County.

Minnesota Naturalization Records Index, 1854-1957
Name: Andrias O. Bratrud
County: Becker
Document Type: Declaration
Years: 1884 -1896

Ok. Olaus Hansen had a sister, Agnete, and Olav Thorstad is in her line. And he lives in Porsgrunn, which is in Telemark. So maybe Bratterud is in his family. I will aski him.

Andrew O. Bratrud's father is named in his death record as Ole Bratrud, birthdate as 1844:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FDSY-DNT

Since he has had 2 wives we'll have to find out about wife #1, also.
