What is MOMS? thanks for the info on Betsy and Rasmus marriage, I have her born in 1864, so she'd be 21 when they married.

Minnesota Official Marriages system:

www.mncounty.com

It is not yet complete or comprehensive though that is the goal.

Birthe is born 04 Mar 1865. #33
Parents: Halvor Jakobsen & Anne Knudsdr, Bussesund farm in Sund, Hordaland.
Note: I saw you spelled it "Busfesund" in that topic. The correct spelling is Bussesund. What looks like an "f" in the church records are in fact an "s".

Okay, if all goes to plan this link should take you to the 100 year old births index from South Dakota. The file date for Norah's birth is 14 Nov 1955 which means its a "delayed" birth record, not a record created at the time of the event but after some years have passed and perhaps Norah's memory was playing tricks? What Jan Peter is saying is find the same kind of record for the other 2 children of wife #1:

http://apps.sd.gov/applications/PH14Over100BirthRec/resultdetail.asp?Action=ViewDetail&StateFileNumber=764752&EventDate=18800403&LastName=NILSON&FirstName=NORAH

One "Christine Clement" born 1859 arrived New York on May 28th, 1879. What else is listed about her? Origin? Nationality?
This was just 10 months before Norah was born, so a bit rush to get married and pregnant or vice versa...

Tried many combinations of spellings of names for Alfred and Christine the children of Rasmus and Christina to discover their birth records, but had no luck. Sounds like the records are not complete and possibly will never be.
I appreciate all the help you've given me and will now try to find the marriage record for Norah and Hans Hanson. Not sure if they married in Yellow Medicine County MN or Steele County ND.

Oh Jan Peter that is so exciting about Christine Clement is there any chance I can get the name of the ship she sailed on? When I clicked on her name it didn't go anywhere. Wanda

There was no link, but the info is from "New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957" at http://ancestry.com/

Census-1880 and the birth record of Norah Otilda list Rasmus & Christina in Minnehaha, SD.
Betsey Jacobson (Birthe Halvorsdr) is at that time in Lisbon, Yellow Medicine, MN.

Thus; Rasmus must have moved from Minnehaha, SD to Yellow Medicine, MN between 1880-1885, where he met and married Birthe Halvorsdr? Daughter Christina is listed as born in SD in 1884, so he must have moved after 1884?

It looks like Rasmus left the Dakota Territory in 1884 with his 3 children and it's likely that his wife, Christina, and mother, Malina, had died.

It looks like the family have left the Stangeland farm by 1865-census.
Could it be that Rasmus' father Niels Torkildsen has died, and that the widow sold the farm? Malene Olsdatter is in Minnehaha, Dakota in 1880.
This looks to be Rasmus in the 1865 census. As a foster-son on the Klaepsvik farm. Two of Rasmus' siblings works on a Stangeland farm in 1865. Possibly the one they were born on? They work on two diff. farms, but they are nearby.

Ragnhilde born 1850.
Torkild born 1846.

Thank you Jan Peter, is it possible that Rasmus' mother and older siblings left for America prior to 1865?

Niels Torkildsen Stangeland died 14 Dec 1855. Lost At Sea.

Submitter wtclark has done a lot of research on this family.
Clicking on Malina's name in the above record, it shows that she married a 2nd time, in 1865, with Jørgen Olsen.

Thus; this must be her in 1865: Magdalene Olsdr
