looking for help with my norwegian/swedish relatives. My grandmother, Helga Larsdatter Kyllesdal, married Per Albin Mattsson, a Swede, in 1923. He had come to Norway to avoid conscription and lived on his brother's farm. His brother had changed his name to the Norwegian version of Mattsson, which is Madsen. His name was E. O. Conrad Madsen. I don't know what the initials stand for, possibly eric olaf???Anyway, her family was quite well off and had a house in the village of Uvdal/Opdal as well as a summer home. After my grandparents married, they lived in Myndalen, Norway. They had two daughters, Anna Christina and Ruth Helene. Per emigrated to Canada in 1926. I have just found the ship documentation. He arrived in Canada on May 30th, 1926. Helga came over in 1927 after the death of her father, Lars. I believe her parents were Lars and Gro Hvammen. I have not found ship documentation to support her emigration here yet. They settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba, canada and my mother May Elizabeth was born there in 1932. Any help would be appreciated!

On the LDS site http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
If you use Kyllesdal in the last name search you will find Helga with parents Father: Tor Gullickson KYLLESDAL Mother: Anna LARSDATTER (her marriage record is there too)
and on the 1900 census at the digitalarkivet she is here http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/ft1900/f00633&variabel=0&postnr=1933&fulle=true&spraak=e
She is listed as Helga Tovsd. Kyllesdal which is probably the correct listing. LDS lists her as Larsdatter which I think is a mistake since her father is Tor (Thov,Tov all variations of the same name.)
