Or go sideways and get an obit for Ingeborg Peterson, Martinus' sister in Iowa. Think this is her in 1940:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KM1W-YZV
The same family in 1930: name: Ingeborg Peterson event: Census event date: 1930 event place: Forest City, Winnebago, Iowa gender: Female age: 39 marital status: Married race: White birthplace: Norway estimated birth year: 1891 immigration year: 1911 relationship to head of household: Wife father's birthplace: Norway mother's birthplace: Norway enumeration district number: 0006 family number: 80 sheet number and letter: 4B line number: 86 nara publication: T626, roll 688 film number: 2340423 digital folder number: 4584444 image number: 00383 Household Gender Age Birthplace head George Peterson M 41 Norway wife Ingeborg Peterson F 39 Norway son Melvin Peterson M 16 Iowa daughter Helen Peterson F 14 Iowa daughter Ruth Peterson F 12 Iowa daughter Lillian Peterson F 11 Iowa daughter Evelyn Peterson F 9 Iowa daughter Edith Peterson F 8 Iowa son Junior Peterson M 5 Iowa
A Raymond Williams has a database containing Ingeborg and George through their son Christian Melvin Peterson. Ingebjorg's last name is spelled Quamsdahl you may want to write to Raymond:

Quick remark: More details on this family in "Masfjordboka" vol. 1, page 279. This book is available on the internet as well, but only from Norwegian IP-addresses....! |

No If I had the obituary, it'd be posted.
You'll have to do some additional work unless someone on this site has access to an online version of a newspaper which carried her obituary and is willing to look for you.
The first thing is to figure out when she died and if there is a local paper covering that date.
There is a possible Ingeborg Peterson in SSDI with a birth date of 25 May 1891 and who died in April 1977, a resident of Forest City, Winnebago county, Iowa. The Raymond Williams database has a different year and a full date of death for Ingeborg.
Does her birthdate in Norway match 25 May 1891? This you should be able to find without much trouble, if you don't already have it and you'd need it to accept or eliminate any particular Ingeborg Peterson you find.
You might email Raymond Williams first to see where he got the information he has and how reliable his source was.
The most obvious thing that might have happened is that there is a typo in his database on the year and she died on his database date in April but in 1977 as appears in the SSDI.
Is there a local newspaper in Forest City? Yes, using the directory at the Chronicling America website I found since 1947 the local paper is called the Forest City Summit. Here is their web address:
http://globegazette.com/forestcitysummit/
You could contact the paper to see if they have a copy of a possible obit for her. They probably won't do this for free, however.
Another way would be to contact Ruth Leibrand who is a volunteer lookup person for Winnebago County at the Winnebago County usgenweb page:
http://iagenweb.org/winnebago/Lookups.htm
Another way to get an obit would be to contact the local public library. Public libraries often have microfilm copies of the local paper but they may or may not have the staff available to find an obit for you:

A farm Kvalhovda (Kvalhovde) may exist, see map.
Kvamsdalen (a place) in this map.
Oh yes, both Kvamsdal and Kalhovda exists today, actually! I know where both places are. Kalhovda is also in Masfjordboka.

No, we don't live in the area, but my wife comes from there & I've been there many times.
I can only guess when it comes to why Martinus was a fosterchild, but "too many mouths to feed" is a good guess and not uncommon those days!
There were actually 12 children in this family:
1, Ingeborg 1888-90 2, Martinus 1889-1900; drowned 3, Ingeborg 1891; to America 4, Ola 1893 5, Kaspar Laurits 1895 6, Borghild Matilla 1896 7, Magnus 1898-1974; stayed at Kvamsdal 8, Harald Johan 1900 9, Your Martinus 1902 10, Ragna 1905 11, Marta 1905; twin with 10, 12, Ananias 1909
Information from "Masfjordboka", more details available.
