It's the ritual a lot of Protestant faiths practice that allows the person who was baptized as a baby to have a say and that the baptism in that faith is correct for the person. |

The confirmation in Norway usually takes place in May each year, and is for those in the 9th grade. This May the 9th graders are born mostly in 1998.
Statistics: In the 1800's, I would estimate 99.9% of the youths were confirmed.
1960: 96.8% of the children born in Norway was christened in the Norwegian church. 2011: 66.4% of the children born in Norway was christened in the Norwegian church.
1960: 93% of the youths were confirmed in the Norwegian church. 2011: 65% of the youths were confirmed in the Norwegian church.
The day begin in the local church, where each confirmand in turn must go forward and see the priest. The ceremony usually take a couple of hrs. In the afternoon, the family (normally the parents) host a party for the confirmand for family and friends, to greet the new adult member of the family. For people who don't belong to the church (or believe in), The Norwegian Humanist Association arrange an alternative civil confirmation, and about 17% of the Norwegian 15-year-olds are now taking part in this civil confirmation. Whether it's a christan or civil confirmation, I believe the confirmand is mostly looking forward to the afternoon party and the gifts from friends and family. If you have a big family, you will get some $$$...

So Bernts daughter Elisa was given up for adoption? Is there any additional information about her after the 1875 census? Marriage , children, immigration or her death? |

I found her. She came to the US after the rest of the family came over. She married Ole Olsen and 1858 – 1924 Olaf Olsen 1884 – 1884 Einar Olson 1885 – Georgine Alfrida Olsen 1888-
I guess she stayed with Mikkel Larsens family for a while according to one of the Norway Census. |
