My grandmother has no info on her mothers parents except they were both born in Norway.
Hogan Mikelson was born on 14 July 1866 came to the US in 1870. He met his wife Bertha Nelson also from Norway in Clarion, Iowa on 20 Feb 1895. Hogan died 18 April 1935 in Clarion, Iowa.

Bertha Nelson Mikelson was on 22 Sept 1864 in Norway. She died on 26 March 1945.

My grandma remembers meeting Bertha's sister as a child. But, does not recall her name. My grandma is 85 and I would love to find out what I can on her great-grandparents.

Thanks in advance!

Clarion is a town in Wright County Iowa - but it quite close to Lake township of adjacent Humboldt County. Was he mentioned in the published history of Humboldt County?

It is obvious that Mr. Mikelsen came to this country from Norway as a very young child, under 10 years of age in the early 1870s. So he probably came with parents and identifying them would be vitally important to finding the family origins in Norway. His parents would appear in the 1865 Norwegian census! We can also see that he spent his early married life in the state of Illinois.

In Iowa they conducted a 1925 state census which asked everyone for the name of their parents (including mother's maiden name) and where they were born. Some people gave more detail that just 'Norway' as an answer to that question. The 1925 Iowa state census is available on LDS microfilm and has been made part of the Ancestry.com package. The names of parents are listed on the 3rd page of each enumeration (6 pages each).

Also on the same page as the daughter Brita are a Niels Thommasen Brække, possibly a father of Haagen Nielsen Brække?
